Getting around the Fuji Five Lakes area is mainly by car. Sights are scattered around the lakes, so a rental car or your own car is recommended. During summer vacation, Golden Week (Japan's early May holiday period), and the fall foliage season, traffic tends to build up around Fuji-Q Highland and near the Kawaguchiko Ohashi Bridge, so starting your day early in the morning is a good idea. Because of the high elevation, mornings and evenings get chilly, so bring a light layer even in summer. In winter the roads can freeze, so winter tires (studless snow tires) are a must.
