Kasuitei Ooya is a long-established ryokan on the shore of Lake Kawaguchi, founded in 1923. There is an onsen communal bath on the basement 1st floor and an observation bath on the top 7th floor, along with a private-hire bath available for a fee. Of the 46 rooms in total, 40 are Japanese-style tatami rooms, ranging from 10-tatami rooms to Japanese-Western rooms that pair an 8-tatami room with a bedroom, so families are well accommodated. Co-sleeping is available for up to 2 children, and meals are prepared for elementary school children and preschool-age children, making this an easy ryokan for a stay with kids.
Rooms
The 46 rooms consist of 40 Japanese-style tatami rooms, 4 Japanese-Western rooms and 2 Western rooms. The standard Japanese-style tatami room is 16.5 sq m (10 tatami mats), takes 2 to 5 guests, and looks out either over the lake, toward Mount Fuji across the townscape, or toward the inner side of the property. The lake-view Japanese-modern Japanese-Western room combines an 8-tatami room with a twin bedroom, a layout that works equally well for couples, families and small groups. Some plans take up to 6 guests, and for parties of more than 2, futon bedding is laid in the tatami room. There are also rooms with an open-air bath looking out over Lake Kawaguchi, in hinoki wood or Shigaraki ware, with 12 tatami mats plus a 4-tatami broad window-side space; they take 2 to 6 guests and have set children's rates. The Japanese-style tatami rooms without a private bath (8 tatami mats, 1 to 2 guests) suit guests who feel no need for an in-room bath given the two onsen bathing areas, the communal bath and the observation bath.

Dinner is served in your room for parties of 2 to 4 guests, while groups of 5 or more dine in a private dining room. The dining venue Kagura Chaya on the 1st floor has 12 private dining rooms with chair-and-table seating, and children's chairs are available. Meals for elementary school children combine a few of the same dishes the adults have with a few dishes aimed at children, and preschool-age children are served a kids' meal. Please note that food allergies cannot be accommodated.
Baths and Onsen
The basement 1st floor has the communal baths Seiryu no Yu and Kotei no Yu, which use natural hot spring water from the Kawaguchiko Onsen Village; the indoor bath has a sauna and the open-air bath has a waterfall bath (utaseyu). Hours are 3 p.m. to midnight and 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. the following morning. On the top 7th floor are the observation baths Tenku no Yu and Tennyo no Yu, open from 3 p.m. to midnight and from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. The private-hire bath Ukifune is also on the 7th floor, available for 50 minutes at 3,300 yen including tax, with advance reservation required. The elevator reaches only the 6th floor, so the last stretch to the 7th-floor private-hire bath is by stairs. A baby bed is provided on the side of Tennyo no Yu, the women's observation bath on the 7th floor.
