Founded in 1923, this long-established onsen ryokan has watched over Mount Fuji and Lake Kawaguchi for nearly a century.

The 46 rooms include 40 Japanese-style tatami rooms, 4 Japanese-Western rooms, and 2 Western rooms. Guests can choose from 9 room types, including Japanese-style tatami rooms with open-air baths, lake-view Japanese-modern Japanese-Western rooms, lake-view rooms in the main building, Mount Fuji-side rooms in the new building, central rooms, Japanese-style rooms without in-room bathrooms, and Western rooms. The separate annexes Bettei Nagisa and Bettei Open-Air Bath Condominium are also available; both are room-only and just one or two buildings away. The ryokan is about 15 minutes by car from the Kawaguchiko IC on the Chuo Expressway, about a 10-minute walk or 5 minutes by car from Kawaguchiko Station on the Fujikyu Railway Line, and offers a shuttle when contacted upon arrival at the station, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. and from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Three bathing areas and celebrated baths of the hot-spring village

The onsen is a natural hot spring from the Fuji Kawaguchiko Onsen Village, a calcium-sodium sulfate/chloride spring (hypotonic, alkaline). On the top-floor 7th floor, the men's observation bath is Tenku no Yu and the women's bath is Tennyo no Yu. Both have open-air baths and are open from 3 p.m. to midnight and from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. the following morning. The basement 1st-floor communal baths are Seiryu no Yu for men and Kotei no Yu for women. Their indoor baths have saunas from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., their open-air baths have waterfall baths (utaseyu), and the baths are available 24 hours. The top-floor 7th-floor observation private-hire bath Ukifune is available for 50 minutes for 3,300 yen, with advance reservation required. Sessions run from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. and from 6 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. the following morning, beginning on the hour and lasting 50 minutes. It is convenient for families seeking private bathing time. Since the elevator reaches only the 6th floor, stairs are required to reach the 7th-floor private-hire bath. A bathing tax of 150 yen per adult applies separately.

Rooms with open-air baths and 9 room types

The popular rooms with open-air baths are on the top floor and come in 2 types: Hinoki and Shigaraki ware. Each accommodates 6 guests and has a 12-tatami room plus a wide veranda. Their open-air baths use heated Mount Fuji spring water rather than onsen water, making them suitable for guests concerned about hot-spring components and for families with young children. The lake-view Japanese-modern Japanese-Western rooms and Japanese-modern Japanese-Western rooms combine an 8-8.5-tatami Japanese-style room with a twin-bed room and accommodate 6 guests, making them suitable for families and groups. The main-building lake-view rooms, new-building Mount Fuji-side rooms, and central rooms are 10-tatami Japanese-style rooms accommodating 5 guests. Japanese-style rooms without in-room bathrooms accommodate 2 guests, as do the Western rooms. All rooms are nonsmoking and equipped with Wi-Fi, heating and air conditioning, an LCD television, and a refrigerator.

Children's rates and dining

Elementary school children are in the Child Rate A (elementary school age) category, charged 70% of the adult rate and served adult dishes with adjusted quantities and numbers of items. Children under school age ages 3-5 are in the Child Rate B (preschool age) category and receive a kids' meal-style serving. For co-sleeping with no meals or bedding, the charge is 2,750 yen including tax per child for children from age 1 through preschool age; age 0 is free of charge. Allergy accommodations are not available. Children's amenities include a child's-size yukata without a sash, towels, and a toothbrush set. Meals are served at the 1st-floor dining venue Kagura Chaya, which has 12 private dining rooms with chair-and-table seating and children's chairs (baby chairs).

Facilities and ways to enjoy your stay

The ryokan has the basement 1st-floor spa salon FINO, offering facial, body, and head-spa treatments from 18,900 yen for 90 minutes, as well as a lobby lounge and banquet rooms available for a fee. Go, shogi and mahjong sets are available to borrow. The cuisine centers on seasonal Japanese kaiseki meals prepared with the chef's specialties, including menus featuring local Koshu dishes such as Hoto Luxury Kaiseki and Hoto Kaiseki. Check-in is from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., and checkout is at 10 a.m.; when no dinner is included, check-in is available until 10 p.m. Pets are not permitted. The property received the 2017 Rakuten Travel Award.
