Just 3 groups a day at a small family pension in the woods

Petit House Cocotto is a pension about a 5-minute drive from the shore of Lake Yamanaka, surrounded by the greenery of the Nagaike district. The name comes from the cocotte, a small cooking dish, and true to that name this is a small house made up of 3 guest rooms. With only 3 groups a day, families with babies and young children can relax without feeling they have to mind other guests. The owners take pride in their homemade cooking, and the couple's warm welcome gives the place a real at-home feeling.

Rooms

There are 3 guest rooms in all. Himawari (sunflower) is a 13-tatami-mat Western-style room for up to 4 guests, with 3 single beds and 1 sofa bed. Kasumiso (baby's breath) is a 12-tatami-mat Western-style room for up to 4 guests, with 2 single beds and 2 sofa beds. Cosmos is a 7-tatami-mat Japanese-style tatami room for up to 3 guests. The tatami room makes it easy to set a crawling baby down to play, while in the Western-style rooms the family can share out the beds, so you can choose to suit your children's ages.

Dining - allergy-friendly meals and baby food can be arranged

Seasonal home cooking makes generous use of fresh local vegetables, and in winter you can also enjoy wakasagi (Japanese smelt), a Lake Yamanaka specialty. A special menu for children with allergies, or baby food made for your child, can be arranged after talking it over with the owners, which is reassuring for families traveling with very young children.

Baths

There are 2 baths, which can be booked for private use in timed slots; please ask the pension for details. Since the family has the bath to itself, you can take your time bathing with a baby or a young child.

Play and time in nature

There is a terrace that anyone is free to use for a barbecue or a spot of tea. You can also hand-feed wild birds such as varied tits, Japanese tits and willow tits - something only a place surrounded by nature like this can offer. Having a small bird land on your palm makes an unforgettable memory for a child. At Lake Yamanaka there is cycling and fishing along the shore, and family spots such as an amusement park, an aquarium and a flower park are dotted around the area.

Access

About 10 minutes by car from the Yamanakako IC on the Higashi-Fuji-Goko Road. Fujisan Station on the Fujikyuko Line is about 20 minutes away by car, and a free shuttle from the nearest station is available if you contact the pension in advance. Parking is free for 4 standard-sized cars.
