Kawaguchiko Lodge Niiya is a six-room guesthouse (minshuku) standing on grounds of about 2,000 tsubo (roughly 6,600 sq m), 7 minutes by car from the Kawaguchiko Interchange. Every room is a Japanese-style tatami room with a Mount Fuji view, in 6-tatami-mat and 8-tatami-mat sizes sleeping up to 4 or 5 guests. The only baths are shared bathrooms, one for men and one for women, and there is no private-hire bath. Meals are served in the first-floor dining room and are built around home-grown vegetables and local ingredients, with meal times open to discussion. On the grounds there is a lawn area where children can play ball games, and free parking is available for 10 vehicles.
Rooms
The second floor of the main building holds six rooms in all: three 6-tatami-mat Japanese-style tatami rooms (Shirakaba, Kashiwa and Sugi, for up to 4 guests each) and three 8-tatami-mat Japanese-style tatami rooms (Icho, Katsura and Enju, for up to 5 guests each). Every room has a Mount Fuji view, and from the glass-enclosed broad window-side space you can look out over the garden and the mountain. Rooms come with a washbasin, an air purifier, a refrigerator, a television, a hair dryer and Wi-Fi, and air conditioning is installed in the guest rooms and the dining room.
Dining
Meals are taken in the first-floor dining room, which seats up to 36 people at once. Several accommodation plans feature dishes that combine home-grown vegetables, freshly picked wild mountain vegetables and local ingredients, and you can talk over meal times to suit your plans. Dinner is served between 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. and breakfast between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m., with the start time settled when you arrive.
Baths
The only baths are shared bathrooms, one for men and one for women; there is no private-hire bath. Toilets are provided on each floor, separately for men and women, and those on the guest-room floor have washlet seats.
Family-Friendly Notes
Because the bathrooms are shared, please keep that in mind before using them if a parent will be bathing with a young child of the opposite sex. Meal times can be discussed on arrival, and both dinner and breakfast can be adjusted within their serving windows. The lawn area at the back of the grounds is open for ball games, a place to stretch your legs and refresh in the air at the foot of Mount Fuji.
Access
The guesthouse is 7 minutes by car from the Kawaguchiko IC on the Chuo Expressway. Free parking is available for 10 vehicles, taking everything from standard cars to medium-sized buses, and there is covered parking for motorcycles as well. Kamui Misaka Ski Resort and Fujiten Snow Resort are about 20 minutes away by car, with no shuttle service, so they are within reach for a winter outing.
