A Hilltop Onsen Ryokan with Views of Mount Fuji and Lake Kawaguchi

Fujikawaguchiko Onsen Ooike Hotel Kawaguchiko is an onsen ryokan on elevated ground on the southeastern shore of Lake Kawaguchi. Access is easy: about 9 minutes by car from Fuji-Q Highland, about 7 minutes from the Kawaguchiko Interchange, and about 2 hours from the Tokyo metropolitan area via the Chuo Expressway. A free shuttle bus is available from Kawaguchiko Station between 2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.

A Fuji-View Communal Bath and Private-Hire Open-Air Baths

The fifth-floor communal bath, on the top floor of the main building, looks straight out at Mount Fuji from the tubs. The garden open-air baths come in two versions, Seseragi no Yu and Komorebi no Yu, which alternate between men and women so guests can enjoy both, with a ceramic bath, a jacuzzi bath and other tubs, each with its own character. There are also two types of private-hire open-air bath, Enza no Yu and Hojo no Yu, where families can bathe together in privacy; these private-hire baths use heated water rather than onsen water. Baby beds are provided in the changing rooms, and baby soap is available to borrow at the front desk.

Guest Rooms Centered on Mount Fuji Views

Guest rooms comprise 1 suite type, 7 deluxe types, 2 standard types and 2 casual types. The upper floors of the annex, newly built in 2021, hold Japanese-Western rooms and Japanese-style tatami rooms with Fuji-view baths, and the top-floor suite has a Fuji-view bath with a jacuzzi plus a separate bedroom. The main building has universal-design Japanese-Western rooms as well as 10- and 12-tatami Japanese-style tatami rooms. Most rooms accommodate 2 to 5 guests. Japanese-style rooms generally use futons, and Western-style rooms generally have semi-double beds.

Child-Friendly Dining and Baby Food Support

For children, the ryokan serves a Japanese kaiseki course based on the adult menu for elementary school children, and a kids' meal for children under school age with Hamburg steak, fried shrimp, crab cream croquettes, salad, curry and more. Mini udon, mini curry and a mixed fried-food plate are available as separate orders, which can be placed until 7:30 p.m. on the day and only by guests on a plan that includes dinner. Bringing in food or drinks is not permitted apart from baby food, which may be brought in and warmed in a microwave; at the dining venue, just ask a staff member for help. Note that children aged 0 who need neither meals nor futon bedding are still charged an admission fee of 3,300 yen, though some plans set admission free for children under 6.

Access and Parking

The ryokan is about 7 minutes by car from the Kawaguchiko Interchange on the Chuo Expressway, right by the Chigasaki-kita intersection. Free parking for 50 cars is available on an asphalt-paved surface; there is no dedicated motorcycle parking or bicycle parking. The free shuttle from Kawaguchiko Station runs from 2:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., and guests call the hotel after arriving at Kawaguchiko Station; advance reservations and specific pickup times cannot be arranged. Fuji-Q Highland is about 7 to 9 minutes away by car, and a convenience store is about a 3-minute walk. Day-use bathing is not accepted, as the baths are for staying guests only. On plans that include an 11 a.m. checkout, the usual 10 a.m. checkout is extended to 11 a.m. for a more relaxed morning.
