Ichifuji Oshino

A Homey Minshuku at the Foot of Mount Fuji in Oshino

Ichifuji Oshino is a homey minshuku (a family-run guesthouse) with 6 rooms and space for 70 guests, in the Shibokusa area of Oshino-mura, Minamitsuru-gun, Yamanashi. The Oshino Village Tourism Association describes it as a warm, homey minshuku full of smiles and sincerity, and as a place that warmly welcomes baseball and soccer training camps, so it hosts sports camps and student groups alongside family trips. Mount Fuji can be seen from the guest rooms and the sports ground.

Communal Bath with Kasseiseki Artificial Onsen Water

The communal bath is described as an artificial onsen using kasseiseki (activated stones), where you can stretch out your legs and unwind after a day of travel. It is a bath on the scale of a minshuku, an easy size to use as a family or a group.

Hands-On Programs (Soba Making, Hoto Making and Barbecue)

The guesthouse offers hands-on programs: alongside barbecues on the sports ground, you can try making soba noodles from scratch and making hoto, Yamanashi's regional noodle dish. It is an easy way for families with children to get a first taste of Japanese food culture.

The Resident Dog Rabu and Home-Style Meals

The guesthouse has a resident dog named Rabu, a favorite with guests, greeting them when they arrive. Meals are home cooking by the okami, the guesthouse's hostess - the kind of food a mother makes. Local rainbow trout and whatever ingredients are best that day go into the dishes, so the menu differs every day. In winter, hoto, warm udon and hot pot are served as well.

Winter Heating and Kotatsu

To suit the climate of the Oshino area, where many days are cold from November through March, the rooms are set up to keep you warm with heating and a kotatsu (a heated table with a quilt). The homey Japanese-style tatami rooms also make a comfortable space for small children at the crawling stage to relax on the tatami.

Access

About 15 minutes by car from Fujiyoshida Station (now Fujisan Station) on the Fujikyuko Line. The Kawaguchiko IC on the Chuo Expressway and the Yamanakako IC on the Higashi-Fuji-Goko Road can both be used. Parking is free for 10 cars, with no reservation needed.

Things to Note

• Check-in is from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Because the 8 p.m. cutoff is early, calling ahead is recommended if you will arrive late in the evening.
• Parking is for 10 cars, on a first-come, first-served basis.
• The hospitality is not that of a luxury ryokan; the service is homey and on the scale of a minshuku.
