The Setting and the Appeal of Lake Shoji

Shoji Lake Hotel stands at 255 Shoji, Fujikawaguchiko-machi, Minamitsuru-gun, Yamanashi, on the shore of Lake Shoji — the smallest of the Fuji Five Lakes and one where the natural surroundings remain untouched. As one of the few ecotourism hotels in the Fuji Five Lakes area, it offers programs that let guests experience the wild nature of Lake Shoji, including water activities, stargazing, camping, trekking and cycling.

Onsen and the Communal Bath

The spring water is a calcium-sodium sulfate onsen, said to be beneficial for neuralgia, muscle pain and bruises. The general communal bath is a mineral-water bath filled with Mount Fuji spring water, built with large windows that take in a sweeping view of Mount Fuji. The open-air bath area has a pot-shaped water bath, where guests can take in the changing seasons and the majestic sweep of Mount Fuji, along with the stars and moonlight at night. Guest Rooms

All 21 rooms are arranged so that guests can enjoy views of majestic Mount Fuji and the lake. The main options are Japanese-style tatami rooms (8 tatami mats, with a shower, for 2 to 5 guests, with a washlet toilet) and Western-style rooms (semi-double bed, 8 tatami mats, for 2 guests, with a Mount Fuji view). Each room has a television, refrigerator, kettle and hair dryer. Note that there is no elevator in the building, so please contact the hotel in advance if you would like a room on a lower floor.

Staying with Pets

Pets are allowed only in the Japanese-style tatami rooms; they are not permitted in the Western-style rooms. Only dogs and cats up to 6 kg are accepted, at 3,000 yen per animal including tax. Pets may not accompany guests inside the campground, so they stay in the hotel guest room only.

Dining

Dinner and breakfast are both served in the dining hall. Alongside a simple plan with two meals, there are several plans to suit different styles of stay, including a lighter dinner with a ramen and rice-ball set, a room-only plan and an activity plan. The latest start time for dinner is 6:30 p.m.

The Hotel's Own Campground

Shoji Lakeside Campground, adjacent to the hotel, is a lakeside site with 9 pitches facing Lake Shoji. Every pitch faces the water, so you have the spectacular view of Mount Fuji and Lake Shoji all to yourself. Campground guests can use the hotel's communal bath, toilets and cooking area, which is reassuring in rainy weather.

Access and Parking

About 30 minutes by Fujikyu bus from Kawaguchiko Station on the JR Chuo Line, about 25 minutes by car from the Kawaguchiko IC on the Chuo Expressway, and about 60 minutes by car from the Fuji IC on the Tomei Expressway. Check-in is from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., and checkout is at 10 a.m. Parking is free for 20 cars on a first-come, first-served basis.
