Overview
Fuji Milkland Kogen Lodge sits within Fuji Milkland, a farm on the Asagiri Highlands at the foot of Mount Fuji. The lodges are two-story maisonettes built with Fuji hinoki cypress, and a lawn opens up right outside the terrace. Around the grounds families can meet the animals - milking cows, walking goats, feeding them and horse riding - and try hands-on activities such as butter making and strawberry picking, which makes it a fine fit for a nature trip with children. Each room has a kitchen and a bathroom, so you can cook for yourselves or have a barbecue.
This highland lodge stands within Fuji Milkland, a farm of about 100,000 tsubo (a tsubo is about 3.3 sq m) at an elevation of roughly 600 m on the Asagiri Highlands at the foot of Mount Fuji, in Fujinomiya, Shizuoka.
Rooms (Lodges)
Built with Fuji hinoki cypress, each lodge is a two-story maisonette with a spacious open-ceiling living room and a terrace. The lawn just outside the terrace lets children play while you keep an eye on them from the room. Upstairs there are 2 bedrooms with a double and a semi-double bed, both generous enough for unhurried co-sleeping with a small child. Each lodge takes 1 to 5 guests, and up to 3 children who have not yet started elementary school stay free of charge when co-sleeping. Rooms come with a washbasin, toilet, bath and kitchen, and cookware and tableware are all on hand, so you can cook for yourselves. There are also room types where pets are welcome.

Dining and Barbecue
At the BBQ Garden House you can grill Koju pork and Mount Fuji beef, both raised on the Asagiri Highlands, over charcoal with everything provided; reservations are required, and seasonal courses are offered as well. Plans with breakfast include a Western-style morning meal served with Asagiri milk. The restaurant on the grounds has family-friendly dishes too, including Mount Fuji beef steak, cheese-stuffed Hamburg steak and a special curry rice with a choice of spice levels, and you can eat with your dog at the terrace seats. The Fruit Village Cafe is popular as well, with gelato and soft-serve ice cream made from fresh raw milk, and parfaits made with strawberries.
Meeting the Animals and Farm Experiences
At the animal petting area on the grounds, which is free to enter, you can get close to the sheep and goats, feed them and take a goat for a walk. With a reservation you can also try dairy-farming experiences such as milking a cow, a led-horse ride (weekends and public holidays; children aged 5 and under can ride together with a parent), winter strawberry picking (free for children aged 3 and under) and butter making, which even young children can join.

Along with the wide lawn (8 a.m. to 8 p.m.), there is the KIDS Plaza with a trampoline, climbing, rolling and other play equipment (weekends and public holidays; some equipment carries a fee), plus rental bicycles - all ways to run around and play with Mount Fuji in view.
