A whole-cottage family stay in a Provence-style cottage by Lake Kawaguchi

Villa Ensoleille is a cottage-style property of 8 units on high ground, a 6-minute walk from the shore of Lake Kawaguchi. The exteriors and interiors are modeled on the country houses of Provence in southern France, and each cottage is positioned to face Mount Fuji. Families can choose from 3 cottage types that differ in the number and size of their beds, and every one is rented as a whole cottage.

Three types of cottage

The cottages come in the following 3 types:

• Superior Maisonette Cottage with Mount Fuji view (97 sq m, 2-5 adults, 5 beds, opened August 2019)
• Maisonette Cottage (71 sq m, 2-5 adults, 8 beds: 2 sofa beds and 4 singles)
• Private Cottage with Mount Fuji view (71 sq m, 2-6 adults, 8 beds, the property's only fully detached type)

Rakuten Travel's room information lists 8 rooms in total and also includes a detached type of 85.7 sq m, with rooms that have a jacuzzi, a toilet with a bidet function and a detached-annex layout. In-room items include a telephone (internal calls only), a DVD player and a baby chair, and the kitchen has an induction-compatible cooktop, a microwave, a rice cooker and a toaster.

BBQ on your own terrace and self-catering facilities

Every cottage has its own BBQ terrace, and the BBQ equipment is available to borrow free of charge (bring your own ingredients and charcoal). Some items, such as the BBQ grill, yukata and bath towels, are rented separately for a fee. There are no separate charges for facility use, heating, utilities, garbage disposal or accommodation tax. Rental of Panasonic electric-assist bicycles also began in November 2023, handy for exploring the lakeshore.

Baths and what to expect with children

There is no communal bath or onsen on the property, so guests use the bathroom in their own cottage; in some cottages Mount Fuji can be seen from the bath. Rakuten Travel's detailed information lists rooms with a private bath and toilet, a toilet with a bidet function and a jacuzzi, and notes a baby chair among the in-room items. No age restriction is stated, and children who have not yet started elementary school as well as elementary school children can stay.

Access and the surrounding area

From Kawaguchiko Station, take the Lake Kawaguchi Sightseeing Bus (Red Line), get off at Saru Mawashi Gekijo and walk 5 minutes; by car it is about 15 minutes from the Kawaguchiko IC on the Chuo Expressway. The shore of Lake Kawaguchi is a 6-minute walk away, and venues for seasonal events, such as Oishi Park and the site of the Lake Kawaguchi Autumn Leaves Festival, are within walking distance too.

Things to note

• Pets are not allowed
• Under the Fujikawaguchiko town ordinance, fireworks are not permitted on the grounds or in the surrounding area
• Charcoal and ingredients for the BBQ, yukata, bath towels and similar items must be brought with you or rented for a fee
