Overview
Kawaguchiko Hotel is a long-standing lakeside hotel with a communal bath looking out on Mount Fuji and views over Lake Kawaguchi. Its 38 rooms are a mix of Japanese-style tatami rooms, Western-style rooms and cottages, and the accommodation plans include child rates. Only breakfast is served, with no dinner, and the communal bath is separated by gender with no other option. Some rooms in the main building are limited to guests aged 16 and over, so families with small children will need to choose a different room. The hotel is a 12-minute walk from Kawaguchiko Station, and a free shuttle bus is also available.
Rooms
The hotel has 38 rooms in total: 24 Japanese-style tatami rooms, 14 Western-style rooms and 2 cottages. The Japanese-style tatami rooms are 10 tatami mats with a bath and toilet, accommodate 1 to 4 guests, and have child rates. The Western-style rooms are 22 sq m, with classic interiors that use wallpaper by a British designer. For groups and families there is also a more spacious 17.5-tatami Japanese-style room for 1 to 6 guests, as well as a Japanese-style bedroom with two beds set in a tatami room, which suits guests who find futons uncomfortable. None of these rooms has its own bath, so guests use the communal bath. The cottages, set apart from the main hotel, accommodate 1 to 8 guests; depending on the plan you can bring in your own food and drinks and keep the party going late into the night. Rooms 321 and 322 in the main building are Japanese-style tatami rooms renovated with Kyo-karakami decorative paper and fine wood, but they are limited to guests aged 16 and over, sound carries easily through the wooden construction, and they have no bath, so they are not suited to families with small children.

Breakfast is served in the restaurant, with a choice of 7:30 a.m., 8 a.m. or 8:30 a.m. The price is 3,300 yen per person, including consumption tax. Dinner is not served, so you will need to arrange dinner yourself on the day you arrive.

The panoramic communal bath is separated by gender. Mount Fuji is visible from both baths, and the bath on the east side also looks out over Lake Kawaguchi. The men's bath faces Lake Kawaguchi and Mount Fuji head-on, while the women's bath offers a wide panorama of Mount Fuji from the tub. Bathing hours are from 3 p.m. to midnight, and from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. the following morning. The facilities include an indoor bath, a sauna, a cold plunge bath, washing stations with faucets and shower booths. Because the baths are separated by gender and there is no other option, a child who is of the opposite sex from a parent needs to be accompanied into the bath by a guardian of the same sex as the child.
