Moon Glow Yamanakako is a private house in the Hirano area of Yamanakako Village that is rented out one whole building at a time. Among the lineup of Human Resort, which runs three properties - Hiyujin, Moon Glow and DEER 13ASE - it is the villa with the strongest sense of luxury. The site covers 180 tsubo (about 595 sq m), with 3 guest rooms and space for up to 10 guests, and the whole building is booked by a single family or group.

A wood deck with Mount Fuji views, and barbecues

On the spacious wood deck you can take your time over a barbecue or a glass of wine while looking out at Mount Fuji and the surrounding nature. The deck is built so that you can barbecue whatever the weather, and it doubles as a rest space that combines the openness of the outdoors with the calm of a living room. Rates can be chosen from a menu of options including a barbecue plan, a plan with dinner and a plan with two meals. Meals must be reserved at least 7 days in advance.

A living room with a fireplace, and a Japanese-style tatami room

The living room has a vaulted ceiling and a fireplace, and its large windows let in daylight and views of the forest, where squirrels and deer sometimes appear. The Japanese-style tatami room is a characterful space that makes generous use of wood, and the cushioned tatami means that small children can play there energetically with peace of mind, so everyone from crawling babies to children under school age can settle in comfortably on the tatami. All rooms are equipped with the latest air conditioners.

The hinoki bath and amenities

The bathroom walls are clad entirely in hinoki (Japanese cypress), and the large windows open up the view for a bath that feels genuinely indulgent. The water is heated water rather than onsen, but the bath is available 24 hours and fresh water can be run for each room. Amenities include shampoo, conditioner, body soap, cleansing foam, a hair dryer, face and bath towels, and toothbrushes.

Kitchen facilities and the mini kitchen

The bright dining kitchen is equipped with a microwave, a kettle, a refrigerator and a full range of tableware, so you can carry on much as you would at home; the microwave and mini kitchen are available in some cases only and require a reservation. It is easy to warm baby food or do simple cooking, which leaves you free to eat on your own schedule.

Bringing pets, and access

Pets are welcome for an additional fee - 1,500 yen for a small dog, 2,500 yen for a medium dog and 3,000 yen for a large dog, per animal - with the rate set according to the dog breed classification table. The villa is 10 minutes on local roads from the Yamanakako IC on the Higashi-Fujigoko Road, reached via the Otsuki JCT on the Chuo Expressway, and about 30 minutes from the Gotemba IC on the Tomei Expressway. It is about 25 minutes by car from Kawaguchiko Station. From Fujisan Station, take the Fujikyu local bus, get off at Yamanakako (Hirano) and walk 20 minutes. The Fujikyu Highway Bus from Shinjuku Station stops at Bugakuso, a 10-minute walk away.

Points to note

• The entire property is non-smoking; an ashtray is provided on the outdoor pension terrace.
• Bringing a pet costs an additional fee, set according to the dog breed classification table.
• A separate charge of 2,000 yen per room per night applies as a heating fee from November to April and as a cooling fee from May to October.
• If you stay past checkout time, 5,000 yen is added for each additional hour.
• Meal plans must be reserved at least 7 days in advance.
• Because the whole building is rented to one group, use by anyone who is not staying overnight, such as joining for the barbecue only, requires advance notice of the number of people and payment of a separate fee.
