Oogiyama Ryokan is a homey ryokan with an open-air bath in Funatsu, Fujikawaguchiko-machi. It has 15 rooms in all, purely Japanese-style tatami rooms of 8 to 12 tatami mats, with shared bathrooms and toilets. Some rooms look out on Mount Fuji, though you cannot request a specific one. There are 2 rock-built communal baths, separated for men and women, one of them with an open-air bath, and they alternate between the sexes. The water is not currently onsen, and the open-air bath cannot be used in winter, in January and February, because it freezes. There is no information about baby-item rentals or a playroom, so please check with the ryokan about any equipment you need. Children's rates are set, but the amounts are not published. Rooms
The ryokan is built mainly around purely Japanese-style tatami rooms, 15 rooms in all. The rooms listed on Rakuten Travel are Japanese-style tatami rooms of 8 to 12 tatami mats, with no bathroom or toilet of their own; these are shared. Each room has a television, a tea set, individually controlled air conditioning, a toothbrush set, a face towel and yukata, and a hair dryer and an electric hot-water kettle are available to borrow. The corner rooms on the second floor have fine views of Mount Fuji, and some other rooms look out on it from the window as well, but you cannot request a specific room.
Baths
There are 2 rock-built communal baths, separated for men and women, one of them with an 8-tatami open-air bath. The two alternate between the sexes, and they are open from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. On a clear day Mount Fuji can sometimes be seen from the open-air bath, but the open-air bath cannot be used in winter, in January and February, because it freezes, and depending on how full the ryokan is on the day, only the indoor bath may be available. The communal baths are not currently onsen. For day-use onsen bathing, Kaiun no Yu, Onsenji and Tensui are all a few minutes away by car.
Dining
The proprietress cooks with local ingredients, serving Japanese set meals built around Yamanashi ingredients such as vegetables from local farmers and horse sashimi. Breakfast and dinner are both served in the dining area. From spring through fall you can also enjoy a barbecue at the dedicated covered barbecue area, from May through early October. Note, though, that the only plan listed on Rakuten Travel is a single room-only plan without meals, so please check with the ryokan if you would like to stay with meals included.
Staying with Children
There is no information about baby-item rentals, a playroom, a pool or other facilities for children, and no mention of services specifically for families. If you need a crib or children's tableware, please check with the ryokan whether these can be provided. Rooms take 1 to 4 guests, and children's rates are set, though the amounts are not listed in our information. Bathrooms and toilets are shared, and the communal baths can be used until 11 p.m. The building also has a multipurpose hall of about 120 tatami mats, with a changing room and a piano, along with table tennis, vending machines, 2 washing machines and karaoke. The shore of Lake Kawaguchi is a 10-minute walk away, and a convenience store is 5 minutes on foot. Fuji-Q Highland is about 10 minutes away by car. Parking for 50 cars is free and needs no reservation. Check-in is from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., and checkout is at 10 a.m.
