A resort with three kinds of lodging in the forest by Lake Motosu

Resort Pension Motosu stands in the forest at an elevation of about 900 m by Lake Motosu, and runs three kinds of lodging: a nostalgic main pension building with 8 rooms, private-hire cottages where you can enjoy a space to yourselves, and glamping tents for a comfortable stay out in nature. At 900 m there are fewer insects than on lower ground, so even first-timers can enjoy the outdoors in comfort. It is about 25 minutes from Kawaguchiko IC on the Chuo Expressway along Route 139 toward Lake Motosu, and about 40 minutes from Fuji IC on the Tomei Expressway. From Kawaguchiko Station on the Fujikyuko Line, take the public bus bound for Lake Motosu for about 37 minutes and walk about 10 minutes from the Motosu-iriguchi bus stop, or get off at the Motosu bus stop, where a pickup is available if you contact the pension in advance - so you can get here without a car.

Eight guest rooms, plus private-hire cottages and glamping

The main pension building has 8 rooms in total: 2 Western-style rooms, 3 Japanese-style tatami rooms and 3 Japanese-Western rooms. The roomy Japanese-Western rooms are a favorite for extended-family and three-generation trips. Every room comes with a bath, toilet, shower, air conditioning, a TV, a washlet toilet, a washbasin and an air purifier. The cottages are private-hire and allow pets; with a dog run and a pet bath nearby, they suit trips with a dog. The cottages do not include yukata, so please bring your own pajamas. The glamping tents offer a luxurious outdoor experience with the Lake Motosu forest to yourselves. The entire property, rooms and all, has been non-smoking since September of Heisei 28 (2016).

A private-hire open-air bath and a kids' playroom

The baths on site are not onsen, but there is an open-air bath and an indoor bath, and both are used as a private-hire bath by one room at a time. That means you never run into other guests, so families and those with young children can bathe in private. The pension also has a kids' playroom just for children, and with kids' areas both indoors and out, there is somewhere for children to play even in the rain. A multipurpose room, karaoke, table tennis, shogi (available to borrow free of charge), bicycles to rent and a coin laundry mean three generations can find plenty to do without leaving the property.

An original course dinner built around beef fillet

Dinner is the owner's own original course menu, built around a beef fillet the owner takes pride in. The centerpiece is a steak of beef fillet sourced directly from a meat wholesaler, served in the dining room as a full dinner to savor with all five senses. Breakfast is served in the dining room as well, and guests praise the carefully prepared dishes, made largely from local ingredients. Dinner starts at 6:30 p.m.; please let the pension know in advance if you will be late.

Children's rates, conditions and payment

Check-in is from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. (6 p.m. at the latest; 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. as a guide), and checkout is at 10 a.m. Infants co-sleep without bedding or meals, with a separate facility fee of 2,750 yen (Rakuten) or 2,530 yen (Jalan). At the cottages, all children including preschool-age children are charged the adult rate, and infants stay without bedding for a facility fee of 2,750 yen. Yukata are available only in sizes for junior high school age and up; the cottages have no yukata, so bring your own pajamas. Please note that payment is by cash only - credit cards are not accepted.
