A guesthouse for one group per day, a 7-minute walk from Kawaguchiko Station

Guesthouse Fujisan is a room-only guesthouse in a quiet residential neighborhood about a 7-minute walk from Kawaguchiko Station on the Fujikyuko Line, and it is booked by just one group per day. The two-story wooden building opened in June 2019, and its black walls make it easy to spot. The walls are finished in diatomaceous earth and washi paper, and wood is used generously throughout, giving the Japanese-modern interior the texture of natural materials. A Bio Solar system that harnesses solar heat provides underfloor heating and ventilation, keeping the indoor environment comfortable. Because one group has the entire building, families with children and groups can relax without worrying about other guests. The property has received Yamanashi Green Zone certification, and staff are on site throughout your stay.

Three bedrooms with a living-dining-kitchen area and a full kitchen

There are three guest rooms in all: a 6.5-tatami Japanese-style tatami room on the first floor sleeping up to 3 guests, and on the second floor a 5.4-tatami Japanese-style tatami room sleeping 2 to 3 guests and a 3.6-tatami Western-style room with a loft sleeping 2 guests. The house takes 1 to 7 guests. The 19-tatami living-dining-kitchen area on the first floor has air conditioning, a refrigerator, a microwave, a gas cooktop, a rice cooker, a toaster oven, a coffee maker, cooking utensils, dishes, a dining table and a sofa, so you can cook for yourselves; there is a dishwasher as well. A Seven-Eleven is a 6-minute walk away and Kawaguchiko Shopping Center BELL, which houses a large supermarket, is a 7-minute walk away, making it easy to stock up on groceries and daily items. As this is a room-only guesthouse, meals are a matter of using nearby restaurants or the kitchen.

Facilities for time with children

The house has a Nintendo Switch with Mario Party, Mario Kart 8 and Sekai no Asobi Taizen (a compendium of games from around the world), so the family can enjoy rainy days and evenings together. There is also a baby chair in the first-floor living-dining-kitchen area, which makes mealtimes easier with a small child. The tatami in the Japanese-style rooms is reassuring for babies at the crawling stage. Wi-Fi is available in every room. Please note that sleepwear such as pajamas and yukata is not provided, so bring your own; bath towels and face towels are provided.

Bathing

The house has a shower room stocked with body soap, shampoo and conditioner. There is no communal bath, onsen or bathtub. Within walking distance is Fujiyama Onsen, a day-use onsen facility known for its all-wood bathhouse of more than 100 tsubo (a traditional Japanese unit of floor area), which you can visit if you would like a soak.

The surrounding area and access

You can walk from the house down to the shore of Lake Kawaguchi, where the seasons take turns: cherry blossoms with Mount Fuji in spring, lavender in early summer, and a corridor of some 400 to 500 maple trees in fall. Fuji-Q Highland, famous for its scream-inducing rides, is within walking distance and has had free park admission since July 2018, making this an excellent base for families with children. It is about a 7-minute walk from Kawaguchiko Station on the Fujikyuko Line and about 3 minutes by car from the Kawaguchiko Interchange on the Chuo Expressway. Parking is free for a total of 3 cars, with 2 on the property and 1 nearby. Dogs may stay with you, with only the living-dining-kitchen area open to them; conditions apply, this must be discussed when booking, and dogs are not allowed in the bedrooms.
