A BESS log house surrounded by nature near Lake Kawaguchi, rented to one group

Fujiyama Base is a rental villa of the BESS "Country Log House" type, about 300 m from the shore of Lake Kawaguchi. The spacious grounds of roughly 1,400 sq m are surrounded by nature, and only one group stays per day, so families with young children can relax and spread out without worrying about other guests. Log houses hold heat well, staying cool in summer and warm in winter. Every room has air conditioning, and in winter a wood stove and underfloor heating keep the house comfortable. Newly built and opened in July 2023, it is a relatively new property.

A second-floor indoor play area for rainy days and winter

The second-floor space has a bouldering wall, a net play structure, a swing, a table tennis table, table soccer and a hammock, so children can move around and play indoors whatever the weather. The large play equipment, including the bouldering wall and the net play structure, is only for children age 12 and under, and the net play structure holds up to 3 people with a weight limit of 200 kg. Children under school age must be accompanied by one adult when using it. Outdoors on the large grounds, families can also play with the badminton set and baseball gloves the property provides; outdoor use is between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.

BBQ on the roofed wood deck, plus a wood stove

The roofed wood deck, reached from the first-floor living room, means you can enjoy a BBQ even on a rainy day. A full set of equipment is included in the accommodation rate: a large BBQ grill for 8, charcoal, grill nets, tongs, paper plates, disposable chopsticks and paper cups, heat-resistant gloves, and a table and chairs. You need to bring your own food and seasonings. BBQ is available from check-in at 3 p.m. until 8:30 p.m., but it is generally not available in stormy weather such as high winds, or from the evening onward in winter (around mid-December to mid-March), when temperatures drop below freezing. In winter the wood stove keeps you warm, with a usable season from around December to April.

Kitchen, bathroom facilities and bedding

As a property designed for longer stays, it comes with a full set of kitchen appliances, cookware and tableware, including a microwave, refrigerator, kettle, toaster oven, rice cooker, electric griddle, induction cooktop and donabe (earthenware pot). There is also a washer-dryer with detergent, laundry nets and hangers, which is handy on a longer stay. The 3 bedrooms have 7 beds and one set of futon bedding in total, and the beds can be pushed together so young children can sleep comfortably. Capacity is 8 guests, including young children. Separate from the main house is a workshop cabin (sub-cottage) with Wi-Fi, free to use for work, crafts or reading. An EV charger (200 V, for one vehicle) is also available.

Access

About 10 minutes by car from Kawaguchiko Station on the Fujikyuko Line. By train, take the Lake Saiko loop bus (Green Line) from Kawaguchiko Station, get off at Tenjinshita and walk about 900 m. About 15 minutes from the Kawaguchiko IC on the Chuo Expressway (about 7 km on ordinary roads). Because the property is newly built, a good guide is to search car navigation for "Michi-no-Eki Katsuyama" and follow the lakeside road (Prefectural Route 710) toward Lake Saiko for about 1.8 km. Parking is free for 5 cars with no reservation required. Winter tires or chains are required in winter.
