Yougan Onsen Ryokan uses Mount Fuji lava in its baths and in the walls inside the building, and it sits about 5 minutes by car from Kawaguchiko Station. The guest rooms are Japanese-style tatami rooms of 8 or 10 tatami mats, or two connected tatami rooms; the bath and toilet are in shared areas. Dinner is served in the Makigari dining room, where you can enjoy yougan-yaki grilled on a lava plate. For bathing there is one lava bath each for men and women. Every accommodation plan has a children's rate, which makes the ryokan easy for families to use. Nightwear for children is not provided, so please bring your own.
Rooms
There are 8 guest rooms in all: Japanese-style tatami rooms of 8 and 10 tatami mats, plus two-room tatami suites of 12 mats plus 15 mats and of 8 mats plus 8 mats. The 8-mat rooms sleep 1 to 2 guests, the 10-mat rooms 1 to 3 guests, and the two-room suites 2 to 6 guests. Rooms come with a TV, heating and air conditioning, towels, a toothbrush set, yukata and a down duvet, but the bath and toilet are in shared areas. Because futon bedding is laid out on the tatami, the layout also makes co-sleeping with a small child easy. All rooms are non-smoking.
Dining
Dinner is served in the Makigari dining room. Lava is laid across the center of the table, and the specialty is yougan-yaki, where you grill meat and vegetables to your own liking. The lava plate is heated for cooking, so please take care with the heat when young children are seated at the table. The last meal service is at 7 p.m., so if you expect to arrive late, please keep the dinner time in mind.
Baths
There is one lava bath each for men and women, built with a generous bed of Mount Fuji lava. The far-infrared effect and the minerals in the lava are said to warm the body. Bathing hours are from 3 p.m. to midnight, and again from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. the next morning.
Family-Friendly Features
Every accommodation plan has a children's rate. The rooms have no bath or toilet of their own and use shared areas instead, so families with small children will find it reassuring to plan for moving to and from them at night. Nightwear for children is not provided, so please bring your own. There is a 10 p.m. curfew, so please keep your return time in mind after a day out at Fuji-Q Highland or elsewhere nearby.
Access
The ryokan is about 5 minutes by car from Kawaguchiko Station, and a free shuttle runs to Kawaguchiko Station and to Fuji-Q Highland (the hotel side). To use it, you need to request the shuttle at either check-in or checkout. There is parking for 20 cars, free of charge and with no reservation needed.
