Fuji Matsuzono Hotel

Location and Views

Fuji Matsuzono Hotel is a 111-room onsen hotel on the shore of Lake Yamanaka, along National Route 138 in Yamanakako-mura, Minamitsuru-gun, Yamanashi. Lake Yamanaka, at an elevation of about 1,000 m, is known as the lake closest to Mount Fuji, and the hotel is laid out so that every room looks out on either Mount Fuji or Lake Yamanaka. Mount Fuji can also be seen from the Japanese garden, and on clear days guests can take in the seasonal moods of the sacred mountain up close from their room.

Onsen and Communal Bath

The standout facility is the natural hot spring Fujimatsu no Yu, whose bathtubs are lined across the bottom with Mount Fuji lava stone. The spring water is an alkaline simple onsen, so the design lets guests enjoy the minerals of the onsen and of the lava stone at the same time. The open-air bath looks out on Mount Fuji, pairing the scenery of each season with water that flows directly from the source. Day-use bathing is also accepted, at 1,500 yen for adults, 1,000 yen for elementary school children and free of charge for children under school age, with a towel and bath towel included, from 3 p.m. to around 7 p.m.

Rooms

All 111 rooms come with either a Mount Fuji view or a Lake Yamanaka view. Japanese-style tatami rooms, Western-style rooms and Japanese-Western rooms are available to suit different kinds of stays. Each room has a television, refrigerator, tea set, hair dryer, yukata and a full set of amenities, and humidifiers and irons are available to borrow.

Dining

Meals are served as a Japanese, Western and Chinese buffet. Guests can take in the spectacular views of Mount Fuji and Lake Yamanaka while enjoying a generous spread built around local ingredients.

Access and Parking

The hotel is about 5 minutes by car from the Yamanakako IC on the Higashi-Fujigoko Road, and about 40 minutes from the Gotemba IC on the Tomei Expressway via National Route 138. From Shinjuku Station, take the Chuo Expressway Bus, get off at the Yamanaka-kyoku-iriguchi stop and walk about 5 minutes; from Kawaguchiko Station or Fujisan Station, take the Fujikko-go Lake Yamanaka loop bus, get off at the TBS Ryo-mae stop and walk about 1 minute. Parking is free, with room for up to 50 standard cars and 6 large buses. Snow and icy road surfaces are possible from November through April in most years, so snow tires or tire chains are recommended.

Sightseeing Nearby

Theme parks, an outlet mall and sightseeing spots are scattered around Mount Fuji and Lake Yamanaka. Winter brings skating and skiing, summer brings water sports and fishing, and cycling, hiking and mountain climbing can be enjoyed throughout the year.
