A homey pension where families can relax by Lake Yamanaka

Ryosha Tsukiakari is a small 6-room pension just steps from Lake Yamanaka, one of the Fuji Five Lakes. Families come here for its free, comfortable pace, away from the bustle of daily life. The attached koo cafe fills the building with the aroma of house-roasted coffee, and an unhurried mood runs through the whole place. Children of any age can stay, and families with babies and small children are welcome.

Two private-hire baths, free to use

There are 2 private-hire baths that staying guests can use free of charge. No advance reservation is needed, so whenever one is free, your family can have a soak on your own. One is available from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., and the other is available 24 hours. There is also an open-air tub, and because you can take your time without worrying about other guests, it also suits families who worry their baby might cry in a communal bath.

Kids' space and playroom

The playroom has a table-tennis table and a kids' space, and staying guests can use it free of charge. Card games and board games are available to borrow, so families and friends can keep the fun going even on rainy days. The airy lounge, which opens up through a two-story atrium, has a projector, and it can be used as a private theater room to watch the major video streaming services on the big screen.

Cafe, barbecue and rental bicycles

The attached koo cafe serves house-roasted coffee, cocoa, apple juice and other drinks along with sweets, and also sells coffee beans. Breakfast is prepared if you reserve it when booking your stay or at check-in, and it is a stylish meal designed to go with the coffee. From April through December you can also have a barbecue on the wood deck; the equipment is provided and you bring your own ingredients. Rental bicycles are handy for exploring around Lake Yamanaka: free for up to 2 hours, and 1,000 yen per day including tax after that.

Guest rooms

The rooms are mainly Western-style, with Japanese-style tatami and Japanese-Western family rooms as well. Choices to suit your group size and style include a Superior Room with a loft that combines single beds with futon bedding, and a Japanese-Western Deluxe Family Room with views of Mount Fuji. Note that cribs and extra beds are not available, so if you have a child who needs to co-sleep, it is worth checking the room type in advance.

Access

Take a bus from Fujisan Station, or drive about 6 minutes from the Yamanakako IC on the Higashi-Fujigoko Road. If you come by highway bus from Busta Shinjuku, get off at the Yamanaka-kyoku-iriguchi bus stop and walk about 15 minutes. Parking is free for 10 cars, on a first-come, first-served basis. Fuji-Q Highland and Gotemba Premium Outlets are also easy to reach, and the pension makes a convenient base for activities on Lake Yamanaka such as SUP and wakasagi (pond smelt) fishing.
