Yamanakako Asahigaoka Onsen Hotel Seikei

A Resort Hotel on About 10,000 Tsubo of Woodland by Lake Yamanaka

Yamanakako Asahigaoka Onsen Hotel Seikei is a resort hotel with grounds of about 10,000 tsubo (a traditional Japanese unit of land area), in the Asahigaoka district on the south shore of Lake Yamanaka. The University of Tokyo's experimental forest lies to the west and the Yamanakako Forest of Literature to the east, and in the clear air beneath the larch trees even a walk around the grounds feels like a resort. At about 1,000 meters above sea level, it stays cool in summer, and Mount Fuji and the nature around Lake Yamanaka can be enjoyed through all four seasons. Along with family and individual travelers, the hotel hosts sports camps, music camps and school trips.

Natural Onsen in Every Room and the Communal Bath

The communal bath, the medium-sized bath and the guest-room baths all use the natural hot spring Yamanakako Asahigaoka Onsen. The bathwater is drawn from underground streams flowing down from Mount Fuji, pumped up and heated. Its metasilicic acid content exceeds the standard value, and it is rich in minerals such as vanadium and bicarbonate ions. Guests praise it as soft on the skin and warming right through the body; it is not classified as a therapeutic spring. Day-use bathing is not available. Guests bring the towels provided in their room to the baths.

Facilities and Meals Children Can Enjoy

The annex lobby has 2 table tennis tables, free for staying guests. The gymnasium, 34 m long by 18 m wide, is available for badminton, basketball and similar activities with advance reservation, and the outdoor cooking area, equipped with 40 cooking stoves, is used for curry-making and, in summer, barbecues. For the barbecue, children who have not yet started elementary school and elementary school children are served largely the same ingredients, with the portions adjusted. Rental bicycles are available for a fee during the daytime from spring through autumn, and go and shogi sets can be borrowed free of charge. Dinner is a kaiseki course that draws on Yamanashi regional cooking, and a kids' menu can be prepared. For individual guests, breakfast includes a free ochazuke buffet (rice with green tea poured over it).

Guest Rooms and Baby Facilities

There are 30 rooms in total, in Japanese-style tatami, Western-style and Japanese-Western styles. Cribs can be provided in guest rooms, some rooms have a humidifier, and rooms are equipped with an electric hot-water kettle. It is a place that suits family trips with young children.

Access and Parking

About 5 minutes by car from the Yamanakako IC on the Higashi-Fuji-Goko Road, following National Route 138 toward Asahigaoka, or about a 15-minute walk from the Yamanakako Asahigaoka stop on the Chuo Highway Bus. Access is also good to Fujiyoshida, Kawaguchiko and Oshino, as well as to Fuji Speedway and Gotemba. Parking is free for 50 cars. Cribs and bed guards are both loan items, so quantities are limited.
