A Small Family-Friendly Guesthouse by Lake Yamanaka

Sailor-so is a 5-room guesthouse (minshuku) in Yamanakako-mura, at the northern foot of Mount Fuji. The rooms are mainly 10-tatami-mat Japanese-style tatami rooms and 6-tatami-mat Japanese-Western rooms, all roomy enough for 2 to 5 guests. Futon bedding can be laid side by side on the tatami, so families worried about a baby at the crawling stage or a child under school age rolling off a bed can rest easy. With so few rooms in total, the guesthouse has a calm, unhurried feel, and it is easier not to worry if the children get a little lively.

The Bath and What's Nearby

There is a bath in the building that families can use, so you can take your time soaking with a small child. A public onsen facility is also about a 10-minute walk away, and there is a supermarket, a convenience store and a 100-yen shop nearby, which makes it easy to top up on diapers, formula and drinks. In winter, from November to March, a heating contribution of 500 yen per room per night applies, and during that period the bath can be used until midnight.

Access and Practicalities

From Fujiyoshida Station, take the bus bound for Gotemba and get off at Hotel Mount Fuji. If you call ahead, the hosts will pick you up from the nearest bus stop. Parking is free for 6 cars, with no reservation needed. Check-in is from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., and checkout is at 10 a.m. Plans are mainly room-only and start from around 5,000 yen per person, so the guesthouse works well as a reasonably priced base for climbing Mount Fuji, for days out, and for an easygoing family trip around the Fuji Five Lakes.
