Ryuguden is a purely Japanese-style ryokan on the shore of Lake Ashi, where every room looks out over the lake and Mount Fuji. All rooms have their own bath, and the Lakeside Special Japanese-style tatami rooms include a private onsen bath. Children ages 2 and under stay free if they need no bedding and no meals, while children ages 3 to 5 are charged a facility-use fee of 1,650 yen per child. During your stay you can also use the day-use onsen at the adjacent Ryuguden Main Building free of charge. The dining area offers both Japanese-style floor seating and table seating, making it easy to use with young children.
Rooms
There are three room types, all overlooking Lake Ashi and Mount Fuji: the Lakeside Japanese-style tatami room, the Lakeside Special Japanese-style tatami room, and the Lakeside Japanese-style Twin Bedroom. The Lakeside Japanese-style tatami room has a 12.5-tatami main room plus a 7-tatami broad window-side space (65 sq m in total), and up to 5 sets of futon bedding measuring 97 cm wide by 194 cm long can be laid out, for 1 to 5 guests. The Lakeside Special Japanese-style tatami room has a 13-tatami main room plus an 8-tatami antechamber (95 sq m in total) for up to 5 guests; only 2 of these rooms have a private onsen bath. The Lakeside Japanese-style Twin Bedroom is 65 sq m with two beds measuring 115 cm wide by 203 cm long, for 2 guests. Every room has its own bath: the Lakeside Japanese-style tatami rooms and the Japanese-style Twin Bedroom use heated water, while the bath in the Lakeside Special Japanese-style tatami room is onsen.
Dining
Depending on your accommodation plan, meals are served either as in-room dining or in the large banquet hall (the dining area). The dining area has both Japanese-style floor seating and table seating, so it is easy to use with young children. Some plans serve a Kocho kaiseki or Fuji kaiseki course for dinner, and breakfast is a set Japanese meal. For food allergies, the ryokan can accommodate only the 8 specified allergenic ingredients (shrimp, crab, walnut, wheat, buckwheat, egg, milk and peanut); other allergies and disliked ingredients cannot be accommodated.
Baths and Onsen
The onsen is Takogawa Onsen, one of the seventeen hot springs of Hakone, and the spring water is classified as a simple onsen, a calcium-sodium sulfate spring and a chloride spring. Children up to elementary school age must be accompanied by a guardian when bathing, and children ages 7 and over or 120 cm and taller cannot use mixed-gender bathing. There is no private-hire bath, but staying guests can also use the adjacent day-use onsen at the Ryuguden Main Building, known for its spectacular views, free of charge.
Family-friendly Features
Up to 3 children may co-sleep, and elementary school children are charged the same rate as adults. Children who have not yet started elementary school are charged the same rate as adults if they need bedding and meals; if they need neither bedding nor meals, children ages 2 and under stay free. When a child age 3 or over is accompanying you, a facility-use fee of 1,650 yen per child applies. If you would like a kids' meal, please contact the ryokan at least 3 days before your stay. Babysitting is not available.

It is 40 minutes by free shuttle bus (reservation required) from the nearest station, Odawara Station on the JR Tokaido Line, and 30 minutes by taxi from Hakone-Yumoto Station on the Odakyu Line. Parking is available for 38 cars, free for both staying guests and day-use visitors.
