Tensui Saryo is a hot-spring ryokan about a 3-minute walk from Gora Station. Families with children stay in the main building; the detached rooms do not accept children under 13. The open-air bath in the communal bath is Owakudani onsen flowing directly from the source, while the indoor bath is not onsen, and under prefectural ordinance mixed bathing with children ages 7 and over is not permitted. A private-hire open-air bath and a private-hire ganbanyoku (heated-stone sauna) can be used at no charge, so families can also secure time to bathe on their own. Children ages 0 to 2 can either co-sleep or have a futon prepared for them.
Rooms
The main building has several room types, including Japanese-style tatami rooms and Japanese-Western rooms, and this is where families with children stay. The detached rooms do not accept children under 13. The 10-tatami Japanese-style room sleeps up to 3 guests, uses futon bedding and faces Sounzan. The 12-tatami Japanese-style room with an open-air bath sleeps up to 4 guests and is popular with groups and families. The Western-style twin room with a ceramic bathtub is 48 sq m for 1-2 guests. The Japanese-style room with a double bed and a semi-open-air onsen bath is 70 sq m and sleeps up to 4 guests. There is also a barrier-free layout of two connecting Japanese-style rooms with almost no steps from the entrance through the room, the toilet and the room's view bath, so guests can move through it while remaining in a wheelchair. With so few steps, it is also easy to get around with a stroller. Every room has an air purifier with a humidifying function.
Baths and Onsen
The first basement floor of the main building has separate communal baths for men and women, and the open-air bath is Owakudani onsen flowing directly from the source. The indoor bath is not onsen. Under prefectural ordinance, mixed bathing with children ages 7 and over is not permitted. There is a private-hire open-air bath and a private-hire ganbanyoku (heated-stone sauna), and during your stay you can use one of the two once, at no charge, in a 45-minute slot (one use per group). It is an option for families who want to bathe together without worrying about the mixed-bathing restriction in the communal bath. For the private-hire open-air bath you can choose between an open-air bath with sanka-kangen-yu (oxidation-reduction water) and a micro-bubble bath. Guests ages 12 and over pay a separate bathing tax of 150 yen per night.
Dining
Breakfast is a Japanese breakfast, served in the restaurant from 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. (last order 9:45 a.m.). The ryokan has revised its policy on food allergies, with the change taking effect on September 1, 2025: when an allergy is declared, it now declines to serve any dishes at all as a rule. New allergen-removal requests and substitute menus are suspended for the time being. If accommodation is needed, it must be declared at least 3 days before the stay; declarations made at the last minute, including on the day itself, cannot be accommodated. Allergen-free food may be brought in if declared in advance. Guests with a history of anaphylaxis and those who use an EpiPen may be declined food and drink service altogether. If you are traveling with a child who has a food allergy, checking in advance is essential.
