Tensui Saryo is a hot-spring ryokan about a 3-minute walk from Gora Station. Families with children stay in the main building, as the detached rooms do not accept children under 13. The open-air bath in the communal bath is Owakudani onsen flowing straight from the source, but the indoor bath is not onsen, and under prefectural ordinance, mixed bathing with children aged 7 and over is not permitted. The private-hire open-air bath and private-hire ganbanyoku (heated-stone sauna) can be used free of charge, so there is also time to bathe just as a family. For children aged 0 to 2, you can choose co-sleeping or have a futon prepared.
Rooms
The main building has several room types, including Japanese-style tatami rooms and Japanese-Western rooms, and this is where families with children stay. The detached rooms do not accept children under 13. The 10-tatami Japanese-style tatami room sleeps up to 3 guests, uses futon bedding and sits on the Sounzan side. The 12-tatami Japanese-style tatami room with an open-air bath sleeps up to 4 guests and is popular with groups and families. The Western-style twin room with a ceramic bathtub is 48 sq m and sleeps 1 to 2 guests. The Japanese-style room with a double bed and a semi-open-air onsen bath is a generous 70 sq m and sleeps up to 4 guests. Laid out as two connecting Japanese-style rooms, it is barrier-free: there are almost no steps from the entrance through the room and the toilet to the in-room view bath, so guests can move around while remaining in a wheelchair. With so few steps, getting around with a stroller is easy too. Every room has an air purifier with a humidifying function.
Baths and Onsen
The first basement floor of the main building has separate communal baths for men and women, and the open-air bath is Owakudani onsen flowing straight from the source. The indoor bath is not onsen. Under prefectural ordinance, mixed bathing with children aged 7 and over is not permitted. There is a private-hire open-air bath and a private-hire ganbanyoku (heated-stone sauna); during your stay you can use one of the two once, free of charge, for a 45-minute slot (limited to one use per group). It is a good option when the family wants to bathe together without the communal bath's mixed-bathing restriction. For the private-hire open-air bath, you can choose between two types: an open-air bath with sanka-kangen-yu (oxidation-reduction water) and a micro-bubble bath. Guests aged 12 and over pay a separate bathing tax of 150 yen per night.
Dining
Breakfast is a Japanese breakfast, served in the restaurant from 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. (last order 9:45 a.m.). The ryokan has reviewed its policy on food allergies and changed its approach as of September 1, 2025: when an allergy is declared, it now declines, as a rule, to serve any of its dishes. New allergen-removal requests and substitute menus are suspended for the time being. Food allergies must be declared at least 3 days before your stay; declarations made at the last minute, including on the day itself, cannot be handled. Allergen-free food may be brought in if declared in advance. Guests with a history of anaphylaxis or who use an EpiPen are declined food and drink service altogether. If you are traveling with a child who has a food allergy, be sure to confirm with the ryokan in advance.
