forumWhat families say

Rakuten Travel rating 4.08 out of 5 (127 reviews). Guests praise the first floor, which works as an indoor dog run so they could stay inside even on rainy days, and the restaurant, where dogs are welcome and there is a buffet for dogs. As a caution, some guests mentioned that construction right in front was very noisy when they arrived. Reviews say little about traveling with children and mostly reflect the experience of dog owners.

Overview

Yururi Hakone with DOGS is a 12-room onsen ryokan in Gora, Hakone, exclusively for guests traveling with small dogs. The communal bath uses Gora Onsen water, and there is also a private-hire bath, available for a fee, that you can use together with your dog. For children, co-sleeping is free for ages 0 to 2, while children aged 3 to 6 who have not yet started elementary school and elementary school children aged 6 to 12 pay the same rate as adults on all plans. Only two room types sleep 3 or more guests: the Western-style twin with a semi-open-air bath and the special room. There is no elevator in the building, so you get around by stairs. The ryokan is about a 1-minute walk from Kami-Gora Station.

Rooms

There are 12 guest rooms in 4 types. The largest is the special room, a Western-style twin with a semi-open-air jetted tub: 50 sq m, sleeping 1 to 4 guests, with two semi-double beds and two sofa beds, plus a microwave. The Western-style twin with a semi-open-air bath is 30 sq m and sleeps 1 to 3 guests, with two semi-double beds and one sofa bed. These are the only two types that families of 3 or more can stay in. The Japanese-style twins, at 8 tatami mats (25 sq m) and 6 tatami mats (20 sq m), are Japanese-style tatami rooms with two semi-double beds, so you sleep in beds rather than on futons. They sleep 1 to 2 guests, and the tatami in the 6-mat room has a waterproof finish. In-room equipment includes a humidifier with an air purifier, a refrigerator, an electric hot-water kettle and a hair dryer. The ryokan does not publish information on cribs, baby futons or bed guards, so please ask in advance if you need them. Up to 2 dogs are allowed per room (up to 3 in the special room), and medium-sized and larger dogs cannot stay. A separate pet fee applies: 4,400 yen for one dog, 6,600 yen for two and 8,800 yen for three, though plan benefits take priority. For your dog to stay, you need certificates for a rabies vaccination given at least 2 weeks and no more than 1 year before, and for a combination vaccine covering 5 or more diseases.

Dining

Dogs are welcome in the restaurant, which has booth seating so you need not worry about other guests looking on. Dinner is a hot-pot kaiseki (multi-course Japanese meal), and breakfast is a Japanese breakfast featuring dishes such as dashi chazuke (rice with dashi broth poured over it). On Rakuten Travel's early booking plan (booked at least 20 days before your stay), dinner and breakfast can be served in your room. The restaurant is open from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. and from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m., by reservation only. Hours vary with bookings, and you can reserve your meal times once you have registered for pre-check-in. No information is published on a children's menu or children's chairs, so please check with the ryokan. Under the operating company's policy (since September 1, 2025), new requests to remove allergens and substitute menus are suspended for the time being. Meals are not served to guests with a history of anaphylaxis, guests who use an EpiPen, or guests who cannot tolerate even trace amounts. You may bring allergen-free food and tableware if you let the ryokan know in advance.

Baths and Onsen

The communal bath uses Gora Onsen, a sodium chloride spring, with separate baths for men and women. It is open from 3 p.m. to midnight and from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., and dogs are not allowed. A bathing tax of 150 yen per person is charged separately for ages 12 and over. Whether children who are not yet out of diapers can get into the communal bath tubs is not stated, so please check. The private-hire bath you can share with your dog uses onsen water, and the private-hire bath and dry room cost 4,400 yen (tax included) for 90 minutes. It is open from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. (last reception 9 p.m.) and from 6 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. (last reception 8 a.m.), and you can book it once your smart check-in email arrives. For hygiene, dogs and owners use separate tubs. The Western-style twin with a semi-open-air bath has a hinoki cypress semi-open-air bath, and the special room has a semi-open-air jetted tub; neither is onsen, and both use heated water.
