Gora Nounou Hakone is a 10-room onsen ryokan in Gora Onsen in Hakone, Kanagawa, whose pride is its milky-white cloudy hot-spring water piped in from Owakudani. The private-hire open-air bath can be used free of charge for one 45-minute session, rooms 301 and 302 have their own in-room open-air bath, and room 303 has a dedicated open-air bath of its own. Dinner is normally served in the semi-private dining area, and it can be switched to in-room dining for 1,000 yen per person. Children's rates are divided into school-age children, preschool children and infants, and there is also a family-only plan on which co-sleeping is free, making this an easy ryokan to use with young children.
Rooms
There are 10 rooms in all: 2 with an in-room open-air bath (rooms 301 and 302), 1 with a dedicated open-air bath (room 303), and 7 standard rooms (rooms 201, 202, 203, 205, 206, 207 and 305). Room 301 is 44.2 sq m with a bath and toilet, can be laid out with up to 6 sets of bedding (2 mattresses plus 4 futons), and sleeps 1 to 6 guests. Room 302 is 30.5 sq m with a bath and toilet, has up to 2 sets of bedding, and suits 1 to 3 guests. Room 303 is 34.8 sq m with a toilet; it has no bath in the room, but there is a dedicated hinoki cypress bath on the same floor, about 30 steps from the door. Standard rooms 201, 202 and 203 are 29.4 sq m and room 205 is 28.8 sq m; all have a toilet, up to 4 sets of bedding (2 mattresses plus 2 futons), and sleep 1 to 4 guests. Rooms 206, 207 and 305 take the same number of guests, with somewhat more modest views than the others. Every room has free Wi-Fi, along with a television, a telephone (internal calls only), a refrigerator, a washlet toilet and a hair dryer.
Dining
Dinner and breakfast are served in the dining area on the first floor. The seating is arranged as semi-private rooms with sunken-floor seating, so you can stretch out your legs and relax. Dinner runs from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m.; start times are assigned in order of check-in and cannot be specified in advance. Dinner can be switched to in-room dining for 1,000 yen per person, for up to 4 guests; room 302 with its open-air bath and the Miyabi course are not eligible. On Saturdays, over the New Year holidays, during Golden Week and around the Obon period there are many group bookings, so it may not be possible to seat everyone together. Baths and Onsen
The ryokan takes pride in its milky-white cloudy hot-spring water, an acidic sulfate spring piped in from Owakudani. The communal bath can be used from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. and from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. The private-hire open-air bath is available free of charge for one 45-minute session between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m. (not included with bookings for rooms that have their own open-air bath); it is not reserved in advance, and your time is arranged when you arrive. Rooms 301 and 302 have an in-room open-air bath, and room 303 has a dedicated open-air bath on the same floor; all of these can be used at any time during your stay. Because the water is acidic, guests are asked to remove jewelry and other accessories before bathing.
