Mizunoto is a Kyoritsu Resort hot-spring ryokan in Hakone's Kowakudani Onsen. It draws on two sources, Kowakudani Onsen and Miyanoshita Onsen, so guests can soak their way through four communal baths and three private-hire open-air baths that are free to use. Children are welcome: the Japanese-Western rooms sleep up to 4, and co-sleeping is available for up to 3 children. Cribs and baby baths are available to borrow, though numbers are limited, and infants and toddlers cannot be accepted on a meals-and-bedding basis, so it is worth confirming before you book.
Rooms
The Japanese-Western room (Suigetsu no Sho, 46 sq m) consists of a 9.5-tatami Japanese-style area and a 29 sq m Western-style area, and sleeps 2 to 4 guests. It has two beds measuring 105 cm wide by 195 cm long by 20 cm high. When 3 or 4 guests stay, futon bedding for 1 or 2 people is laid out separately; no room attendant is assigned, so laying out and putting away the futons is self-service. The Japanese-Western rooms with an open-air bath (Suika no Sho, 35 sq m) sleep 2 to 3 guests, and depending on the room the open-air bath is either an onsen bath or a heated-water bath. The Western-style semi-double room (18 sq m, for 1 guest) is a good choice for solo travelers. Requests for a particular floor are not accepted.
Dining
For dinner, each group chooses between the Ashigara Yuzen kaiseki course and the Aburiyaki flame-grilled kaiseki course, served in two seatings: the first from 5:30 p.m. and the second from 8 p.m. If you book for an elementary school child, the meal is normally the same as an adult's, but a kids' menu is also available, so please call in advance if you would like one. For guests with allergies to any of the 28 specified allergenic ingredients, a low-allergen menu can be prepared; apply by phone or email at least 2 days before your stay date.
Baths and Onsen
Two sources, Kowakudani Onsen and Miyanoshita Onsen, feed the baths. Suika no Sho and Suigetsu no Sho each have a communal bath with both an indoor bath and an open-air bath, and the men's and women's baths swap over the following morning. There are four communal baths in all, each with its own character. In the garden are three private-hire open-air baths (Hiiragi no Yu, Kaede no Yu and Wakatake no Yu), which are not on a reservation system and can be used free of charge whenever they are unoccupied. They have no washing area, however, so wash your body and hair before heading over. Including the private open-air baths, there are 13 baths in all.
Family-Friendly Features
Co-sleeping is available for up to 3 children. Children in the upper elementary grades pay 70% of the adult rate, and children in the lower elementary grades 50%. Infants and toddlers cannot be accepted with meals and bedding; with no meals and no bedding, they stay free of charge. On plans that include dinner and breakfast, the no-meals-with-bedding option and the meals-without-bedding option each cost 4,400 yen. Children from age 3 who have not yet started elementary school require a separate facility use fee of 2,200 yen including tax, whether or not meals and bedding are included. Cribs and baby baths are available to borrow, though both are limited in number, and children's dining chairs, tableware and slippers are also provided. Please also note that when one adult stays with one or more children, one child is charged the same rate as an adult.
Access
Kowakudani Station on the Hakone Tozan Railway is a 15-minute walk away, and a free shuttle from the station takes about 5 minutes and runs between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Parking is paid, and for bookings made from April 1, 2026 it costs 1,500 yen per car per night.
