When you plan a trip to Nagoya with kids, the hardest question is usually where to stay. Nagoya Station, Fushimi and Sakae, Kanayama, Kinjo-futo, the airport and the onsen towns outside the city each have their strengths, and if your base is in the wrong spot, you end up pushing the stroller onto one more train every day. Kids Stay lists 50 family-friendly places to stay in and around Nagoya. This guide picks 17 of them and only covers facilities and policies we confirmed on the official website or the Rakuten Travel page. Choose the area first, then think about your child's age, and finally check the room size, and the rest of the trip falls into place.

Picks by your child's age

Under 1

Look at cribs and gear to borrow first. Nagoya Prince Hotel Sky Tower holds Welcome Baby certification and lends cribs and bed guards. Vessel Hotel Campana Nagoya even lends strollers, so you can leave one more bulky item at home.

Ages 1 to 2

At this age, food matters most. Nagoya Kanko Hotel offers toddler meals, lets you bring your own baby food and also has childcare services. ANA Crowne Plaza Hotel Grand Court Nagoya also offers toddler meals and lets you bring your own baby food. For how to handle meals, see Can you buy baby food in Japan?.

Ages 3 to 5

Kids this age have plenty of energy, and the hotel itself becomes an attraction. LEGOLAND Japan Hotel has themed rooms and a pool 25 cm deep. Nishiura Onsen Suehiro has a kids' playroom, so rainy days are no problem.

Elementary school kids

At Hilton Nagoya, children up to elementary school age share a bed for free, and there are kids' activities. Miya Onsen Hotel Higaki has an outdoor pool in summer as well as tennis and basketball courts, enough to tire out even the most energetic kids.

FAQ

How do Nagoya hotels charge for children?

Every hotel has its own rules, so check separately whether co-sleeping is free and whether meals cost extra. For example, both ANA Crowne Plaza Hotel Grand Court Nagoya and J Hotel Rinku state that co-sleeping is free but meals are charged separately. For how the charges work, see How Japanese hotels charge for children.

Up to what age is co-sleeping free?

It varies a lot. At Vessel Hotel Campana Nagoya it is 18 and under, at Hilton Nagoya it is up to elementary school age, at Nagoya Tokyu Hotel it is preschool age, and at Hotel Indigo Inuyama Urakuen Garden it is 5 and under. Limits on the number of children also differ, so please check the official website or the Rakuten Travel page before booking.

Is it easy to borrow a crib?

Of the 50 places we list, 22 lend cribs and 13 lend bed guards. Numbers are limited, so we recommend requesting one when you book. For details, see Do Japanese hotels have cribs?.

Tatami room or beds: which is better?

While your child still rolls around in their sleep, futons laid directly on a tatami room floor feel safer. Of the 50 places we list, 24 have Japanese-style or Japanese-Western style rooms, including Nagoya Tokyu Hotel and Hilton Nagoya in the city. For a comparison, see Hotel or onsen ryokan with kids in Japan.

Nagoya's transport is easy to figure out, and as long as you pick the right base, traveling on your own with babies and toddlers can be relaxed. Choose the area first, then filter by the facilities your kids need, and you'll find the right place for the whole family.
