Hotels with Welcome Baby Certified

The first trip with a baby comes with an endless list of questions: is there hot water for formula, can you borrow a crib, will anyone mind if the baby cries? Calling each hotel one by one is exhausting, and arriving to find things are not what you pictured makes an already tiring trip feel lonelier.

Welcome Baby certification is a third-party certification awarded by Miki House Child Rearing Research Institute, a Japanese parenting research body. It reviews whether a property has the facilities and services a family with a baby actually needs, and certifies the ones that meet its standards. Baby gear rentals, baby food service, and safety measures are among the many items a property has to clear, so the mark is a useful signal. For families with infants and toddlers, especially babies aged 0 to 2, it takes some of the worry out of choosing where to stay.

That said, the certification only confirms that a property meets a set baseline, and what is actually offered varies quite a bit from one hotel to the next. For anything specific, such as how many of a given baby item are available to borrow or which baby food stages are served, it is safest to confirm directly when you book.

The first thing worth knowing is that certification is sometimes granted to a whole property and sometimes only to particular guest rooms. Atsumi Onsen Tachibanaya, for example, has certified rooms set aside specifically for families with babies, while at Hotel Emion Tokyo Bay only the Kids Pleasure Room and the Japanese-Western Type A room (a room combining tatami and beds) are certified, with plans offered exclusively for those rooms. Kawaguchiko Onsen Fujilake Hotel is also certified by room, covering Semi-Comfort, Comfort, and the Japanese-style room fitted with low beds. Rather than going by the certification mark alone, check which rooms are the certified ones.

For babies aged 0 to 2, the most thoroughly equipped properties are the ones where children who are not yet potty trained may enter the bath (many Japanese hot spring baths do not allow this), with a baby changing table in the changing room, a nursing room, baby food service, and cribs available to borrow. Atema Kogen Resort Belnatio, Grand Mercure Nasu Highlands Resort & Spa, Hotel Epinard Nasu, and Grand Mercure Yatsugatake Resort & Spa all meet every one of those conditions. Belnatio also has a kids room, a nursing room, and cribs among its loanable items, and since two of the options are in the Nasu Highlands, narrowing down by destination is one good approach.

If you want a hot spring destination, Atsumi Onsen Tachibanaya offers 51 square meter certified rooms with the option of meals served in your room, and guests in the dedicated rooms get one free private bath session. Musubino Yado Airinkan in the Hanamaki Onsen area draws on three of its own hot spring sources across 17 baths, and children who are not yet potty trained may enter the baths. For a beach resort, Kanucha Bay Hotel & Villas in Okinawa has 14 certified Deluxe Family rooms along with a shallow kids pool, childcare service, and baby food.

By region, Okinawa Prefecture has the most, followed by Chiba Prefecture and Shizuoka Prefecture, with several more in Hyogo Prefecture and Tochigi Prefecture. As of 2026, prices center on the 10,000 yen range per person per night. To keep costs down, Yamashiro Onsen Housyoutei and Angel Grandia Echigo Nakazato start from around 10,000 yen, while resort-style properties such as Fusaki Beach Resort Hotel & Villas on Ishigaki Island start from around 40,000 yen. Deciding on your destination first and then comparing the certified properties in that area tends to make the choice much easier.
