They are by reservation from 3 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., and after 10:30 p.m. you may use one whenever it is unoccupied. Because they are private-hire, there is no chance of sharing the water with other guests, which makes bathing with a young child easier.

Overview
Hakone Gorakan is a small onsen ryokan with just 8 rooms, a 3-minute walk from Gora Station. Its milky-white onsen is drawn from Owakudani and flows straight from the source, and staying guests can enjoy it at no charge in a private-hire open-air bath looking out to Mount Daimonji. Every room is a Japanese-style tatami room, and the 8-tatami rooms are laid out to suit anyone from couples to families. Some plans come with set child rates, which makes this an easy choice for a family trip with young children.

Rooms range from 6 tatami mats and 8 tatami mats to a type with 8 to 10 tatami mats plus an adjoining anteroom, up to the ryokan's largest room at 20 tatami mats. The 8-tatami rooms are described as ideal for couples, married couples and families, and sleep 1 to 4 guests. The rooms with 8 to 10 tatami mats plus an anteroom sleep 2 to 6 guests and are recommended for families and groups, so they work well for a family stay. Staff come to lay out the futons while you are at dinner and to put them away while you are at breakfast; if you would like yours left out until checkout, please tell the front desk in advance. As this is a small ryokan with only 8 rooms, sounds from elsewhere in the building may be audible at certain times of day.
Dining
Meals are creative Japanese cuisine served in the dining area inside the ryokan. Dinner begins at 6 p.m. and breakfast at 8 a.m. If you will arrive after 6 p.m. for dinner, please let the ryokan know in advance. Guests with allergies are asked to notify the ryokan beforehand.
Baths and Onsen
The onsen is a milky-white sulfur spring drawn from Owakudani. It flows straight from the source with no added hot water, so the temperature shifts with the season and the outside air, and in cold months the open-air bath can feel on the cool side. The communal bath is available 24 hours, and in addition there are 2 private-hire open-air baths looking out to Mount Daimonji, which staying guests can use free of charge. The private-hire open-air baths are by reservation from 3 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.; after 10:30 p.m. you may use one whenever it is unoccupied, with no reservation needed. Because they are private-hire, you never share the water with other guests, which makes bathing with a young child much easier. A bathing tax of 150 yen per adult is charged separately.

Access
The ryokan is a 3-minute walk from Gora Station on the Hakone Tozan Railway. By car it is about 20 minutes from Yamazaki IC, and about 30 minutes from Odawara IC or Gotemba IC. Parking for 10 cars is free, needs no reservation and sits right in front of the entrance. Please note that credit cards cannot be used when paying for your stay on site: payment is by cash only.
