Leaving the kids in good hands so the two of you can eat a slow dinner or soak in a hot spring is one of the hardest things to arrange on a family trip. With babies and toddlers especially, it is common to hear that the whole trip went by with the parents taking turns watching the children. Hotels with childcare or babysitting are a way to win that rest time back.

At a hotel with an on-site childcare room staffed by licensed nursery teachers, or a babysitter who comes to your room, you can hand over your child in a safe setting and have a few adult hours. Most of these hotels cover a wide range, from babies through the early elementary school years, and at some of them you can use that time for the hot spring baths, the spa, or dinner.

That said, whether childcare exists at all, the ages accepted, the price, and whether you must book ahead vary a great deal from hotel to hotel. Some take reservations in advance only and cannot accept walk-ins on the day, some charge by the hour, and some include a block of free time as a perk for overnight guests. Confirm all of this when you book, including whether there is space on the date and time you want.

Broadly, childcare here comes in three shapes. The first is an in-house childcare room staffed by licensed nursery teachers, such as the "Piyo Piyo Room" at Hotel Epinard Nasu and the "Nijiiro Kids" nursery at Shirakaba Resort Ikenotaira Hotel. The second is a nursery that watches your child only while you use the restaurant or the spa, the approach taken by Hoshino Resorts RISONARE Yatsugatake and Hoshino Resorts RISONARE Nasu. The third is a hotel that arranges a babysitter for you, as Halekulani Okinawa and Mandarin Oriental Tokyo do. The shape determines both where your child stays and how you sign up.

If you want to leave a baby aged 0 to 2, the surest approach is to choose from hotels that state a minimum age in months. Hoshino Resorts Tomamu The Tower and Hoshino Resorts RISONARE Tomamu accept children from 5 months, and Hoshino Resorts RISONARE Atami takes 6 months up to preschool age. Senpokaku covers 6 months to preschool age, with a babysitter who holds a nursery teacher license, at 3,300 yen for the first 60 minutes. HOTEL GRANVIA OKAYAMA offers temporary childcare for children from 43 days old to age 6.

For preschoolers and elementary schoolers, the kids club format, with groups divided by age, is a better fit. Club Med Kabira Ishigaki splits its Petit Club for ages 2 to 3 and Mini Club+ for ages 4 to 10, where dedicated staff lead sports, nature activities, and art all day long. The Halekulani Kids Club at Halekulani Okinawa combines indoor drawing and cardboard crafts with outdoor hotel explorations, pool play, and even bug catching. The "Skip" kids club at Minakami Kogen Hotel 200 is run by qualified staff and operates in winter only.

Okinawa has the most of these hotels, followed by Tokyo and Hokkaido, with others scattered across Osaka, Nagano, and Aichi. You can pick your area by the kind of trip you want: a beach resort in Onna Village or on Ishigaki Island, a city hotel in central Tokyo, or the snowy mountains of Tomamu. As of 2026, prices mostly run from around 10,000 yen to around 20,000 yen per person per night. HOTEL GRANVIA OKAYAMA and Tokyo Dome Hotel start from around 10,000 yen, while luxury resorts such as Halekulani Okinawa go beyond 60,000 yen.
