There is a varied lineup to choose from depending on how you travel: a guesthouse surrounded by forest; a center house for groups, with two 6-tatami Japanese-style rooms and a living room; cottages sleeping 2 to 12 guests; dog cottages fully equipped with cages and gates for guests traveling with their dog; Sanshisuimei rooms with an open-air bath; and even a glamping field available for limited periods. Each cottage building stands on its own, so you can spend the night without worrying about a small child crying or fussing. Smoking rules differ by building. The Western-style rooms in the guesthouse are non-smoking, and all of them have been non-smoking since March 1, 2023. The Japanese-style tatami rooms in the center house, the cottages and the dog cottages are classed as smoking rooms, and the hotel says only that it will prepare a non-smoking room as far as it can, so families with babies and toddlers should raise this when booking.
Onsen
The water at the Mori no Yu onsen communal bath is an alkaline simple spring, colorless and clear, and gentle on the skin. It is open from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from noon to midnight, and the sauna from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Staying guests can use it free of charge. There is no swap between the men's and women's baths, and under Shizuoka Prefecture regulations mixed bathing is not permitted for children aged 7 and over. Izu Marriott Hotel Shuzenji, on the same grounds, also has an onsen spa and a pool, which guests staying at Hotel Laforet Shuzenji may use.
Family-friendly features
Bed guards and cribs are available to borrow (1,210 yen per crib), children's yukata come in 110, 120 and 130 cm, baby bottles can be sterilized by boiling or in a microwave, and a kids' menu is available. Baby food is neither served nor sold, but if you bring your own the hotel can warm it. The restaurant has child chairs and baby cots, and diaper-changing baby beds are installed in places including the women's restroom on the second floor of the guesthouse and each changing room at Mori no Yu. Children who have not yet started elementary school stay free of charge if they do not use bedding, and buffet charges apply from age 4.
