Izu Kogen Hanairotei sits in a vacation-home area of Izu Kogen and has just two guest rooms, Tsubaki and Botan, both on the 2nd floor and both with their own open-air bath. It is certified as a Welcome Baby ryokan by Miki House. Items available to borrow include a full set of baby bedding, a Bumbo chair and a baby bath, and diapers and baby food are also provided. The rooms are modern Japanese-style tatami rooms laid with Ryukyu tatami, and there is also an indoor bath that is made available when certain conditions are met. The ryokan is not barrier-free: there are stairs from the parking area to the entrance and up to the rooms.
Rooms
The 2nd floor holds just two rooms, Tsubaki and Botan, and each has its own open-air bath. Tsubaki is 49 sq m, with an 11-tatami Japanese-style room, a 5-tatami sleeping area and a 9-tatami terrace with the open-air bath. Botan is 56 sq m, with a 12-tatami Japanese-style room, a 5-tatami sleeping area and an 11-tatami terrace with the open-air bath. Tsubaki sleeps up to 4 guests and Botan up to 6. Both are modern Japanese-style tatami rooms laid with Ryukyu tatami, and you sleep on semi-double futons rather than beds. In Tsubaki, the sleeping area is a raised platform with paulownia-wood flooring, and 2 futon sets are laid out there. Each room has partition screens: they are usually left fully open, half-closed for naps, used for privacy when changing or nursing, and closed fully once your child is asleep. The layout lets you see your sleeping child from the open-air bath. On the Standard plan's rate table, up to 2 children can co-sleep. Some plans offer free co-sleeping, and the 1st Birthday Celebration plan is for children who have not yet started elementary school.
Dining
Dinner is at 6 p.m. and breakfast at 8:30 a.m., with a choice of in-room dining or the dining room. The dining room has chair seating, and children's chairs are available to borrow. On the 1st Birthday Celebration plan and the Okuizome (baby's first meal ceremony) plan, groups of 5 or more may be given the dining room for their private use. For children aged 1 year 6 months to 5, there is a light ichiju sansai meal (soup with three side dishes) at 2,000 yen for breakfast and dinner. Access
Izu Kogen Station is about 10 minutes away by taxi, at around 1,500 yen, and there is no shuttle. On foot it takes 40 to 50 minutes from the station, along sloping roads. Parking is free for staying guests, with space for 5 cars; the lot is on a slope with steps, and if you find it hard to park, a substitute driver service is available. Check-in is from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and checkout is at 11 a.m. For a fee, you can check in early from 2 p.m. and extend checkout until 12 p.m.
