Overview

Nasubi no Hana is an onsen ryokan on high ground in Ito, Shizuoka, where all 13 rooms have their own open-air bath. Children can only be accommodated in the 6 Japanese-style tatami rooms of the main building; the Western-style annex, Yo no Bettei Aubergine, does not accept children. Babies are welcome, and there is a plan for ages 0 to 2 that comes with a set of baby items. The ryokan does not prepare baby food itself but will help with commercially prepared baby food you bring. There is no communal bath, so bathing happens at your leisure in your room's open-air bath. Note that there are stairs between the parking area and the entrance, so take care if you are using a stroller.

Rooms

Standing on high ground in Ito, Shizuoka, the ryokan has 6 Japanese-style tatami rooms in the main building and 7 Western-style rooms in the annex, Yo no Bettei Aubergine - 13 rooms in all, every one of them with its own open-air bath. Every room in the main building is a 10-tatami Japanese-style tatami room sleeping up to 4 guests, and the main building's rooms also have an air purifier with a humidifying function. Mame no Ma is the only room in the main building with a rock-built open-air bath, roomy enough for 4 or 5 people to soak comfortably. Negi no Ma, a corner room on the first floor, has its open-air bath and terrace as separate spaces and is described as a favorite with families. The Western-style annex, Yo no Bettei Aubergine, offers double and twin rooms with a kitchenette and does not accommodate children.

Dining

Dinner is creative cuisine built around what are known as Izu's three great delicacies - spiny lobster, splendid alfonsino and Ashitaka beef from Shizuoka. Guests in the main building normally have in-room dining, served in their own room looking out over the sea and the Seven Islands. Groups and parties of two or more families who would prefer a dining room can be served in a private dining room by arranging it in advance. Let the ryokan know of any food allergies or ingredients you would rather avoid when you book, and they will accommodate you as far as they can. Handmade baby food is not prepared, but if you bring commercially prepared baby food, the staff will warm it and lend you tableware. There is also a children's set meal, the Okosama Gozen, on the menu. If you expect to arrive after 8 p.m., note that public health guidance may make it difficult for the ryokan to serve dinner.

Baths and Onsen

As a small ryokan, it has no communal bath; bathing centers on the open-air bath set into your guest room. The spring water is an onsen also known as a bijin-no-yu, or "beautifying bath," and you can enjoy a soak just with your family, without worrying about running into other guests.

Family-Friendly Features

Children can only be accommodated in the 6 Japanese-style tatami rooms of the main building; the accommodation plans for the Western-style annex, Yo no Bettei Aubergine, do not allow co-sleeping or accept babies, toddlers or elementary school children. When choosing a room, be sure to confirm that it is in the main building. Stays with babies are welcome, and the Baby's Onsen Debut plan for children ages 0 to 2 comes with a baby futon, a baby bath, a baby chair, baby wipes, disposable diapers, a lidded diaper-only trash bin, a formula-preparation pot, a baby-bottle sterilizing case and sterilizing solution, and baby tableware, along with two servings of commercially prepared baby food and two cube-formula portions. On this plan, one child aged 0 to 2 is included in the rate for 2 adults. There are no non-smoking rooms; if you would like one, the staff will do what they can to deodorize the room. Getting from the parking area to the entrance means going down about 50 steps, and there are further stairs and changes in level inside the building, so take care if you are using a stroller.
