Rakuten Travel rating 4.61 out of 5 (253 reviews). In reviews from families with babies, guests say the baby goods and toys, the barley tea, snacks and baby wipes that were provided, and the children's amenities and towels in the family bath were a great help. Guests also praise the handmade baby food, and many describe the staff as attentive. On the other hand, one review notes that the rooms are dark and that indirect lighting would be welcome.

On the 5th floor of the main building there are two family baths that staying guests can use free of charge, and the water can be set to a lukewarm temperature to suit a baby. Kids' meals and handmade baby food tailored to your baby's age in months are available, and baby items such as a B-type stroller and a formula-preparation kettle can be borrowed on request. The Japanese-style tatami rooms have futons laid out on 12 tatami mats, and the Japanese-Western rooms also have a raised tatami area. Yuya Suizen in the annex is limited to junior high school students and older.

Rooms

There are 13 rooms in all: 6 Premium Japanese-Western rooms, 3 Japanese-Western rooms, 3 Japanese-style tatami rooms and 1 Comfort Double. The Premium Japanese-Western rooms are 47.88-51.66 sq m and sleep 2 to 4 guests, with semi-double beds and a Japanese-style area of 3 to 4 tatami mats. Four of them have a terrace, and the bathroom is a glass-walled room with a bathtub. The Japanese-Western (Twin) rooms are 33.68-35.28 sq m and sleep 2 to 4 guests, with two semi-double beds 122 cm wide and a Japanese-style area of 3 to 4 tatami mats. The Japanese-style tatami rooms are 33-35.4 sq m and sleep 2 to 5 guests, with single down futons laid out on 12 tatami mats. In both of these room types, the bathroom is a wet shower booth. The Comfort Double is a 14 sq m single room for 1 guest (please inquire about use by 2 guests), with one double bed. There is no information on cribs, baby futons or bed guards, nor on co-sleeping charges or age restrictions for staying. On two breakfast-included plans on Ikyu.com (a Japanese booking site), bookings in the elementary school and infant/young child rate categories are not accepted, and co-sleeping is for ages 0 to 2, with up to one child per adult. The per-room co-sleeping limit depends on the room shown in the plan details: up to 1 in the Comfort Double on the Bed and Breakfast plan, and up to 2 in the Japanese-Western room on the Early Booking Discount 60 plan.

Dining

Dinner is served in the dining venue, with options such as the Chisan Kyodo Kaiseki (a multi-course meal of local, regional dishes) and the Matsuya Gozen set meal. Private dining rooms and in-room dining require advance reservation and an additional charge, and a 20% service charge is added for private rooms. Breakfast is served from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and is not available in your room or in a private room. A kids' meal can be added to a meal plan. Children's dishes are from 3,000 yen for children who have not yet started elementary school and from 4,000 yen for elementary school children, and children's breakfast is 2,000 yen (all before tax and service charge). Handmade baby food tailored to your baby's age in months can also be prepared. To be sure baby food and allergy requests can be met, let the ryokan know when booking or at least 3 days before arrival; requests cannot be handled on the day. If you bring baby food made at home, it can be warmed on request. Because everything is cooked in the same kitchen, allergens cannot be completely removed.

Baths

On the 5th floor of the main building there are two family baths with artificial radium onsen water, which staying guests can use free of charge for 50 minutes at a time. They are available from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. and are reserved at check-in on a first-come, first-served basis. The water can also be set to a lukewarm temperature to suit a baby. The communal bath (White Ion Bath) on the 3rd floor of the main building alternates between men and women and is open from 4 p.m. to midnight and from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. Whether children in diapers can get into the tubs of the communal bath is not stated, so please check in advance. Yuya Suizen, the spa and sauna in the annex across the street, is limited to junior high school students and older, and guests with tattoos (including tattoo stickers) cannot use its large bath.
