Its three private-hire baths - open-air, cypress and stone - are free to use 24 hours a day with no reservation, and it also has a detached cottage that sleeps 4 to 5 and a löyly sauna that can be booked for private use. Every room has Airweave bedding, and the inn suits families and groups traveling to Kusatsu.

Kusatsu Onsen Yunoyado Misago is a Japanese-style inn about a 10-minute walk from the onsen town of Kusatsu Onsen in Gunma Prefecture. Its three baths - an open-air bath, a cypress bath and a stone bath - are all private-hire only, each with a lock, and all are free to use at any hour of the day or night with no reservation. Rooms range from Japanese-style tatami rooms to a cottage, and because the cottage stands apart from the main house, children can be a little lively without you having to worry about other guests. The whole property is non-smoking, and every guest room has an air purifier.
Rooms
There are 5 guest rooms in all: a 16-tatami-mat Japanese-style tatami room (for 2 to 5 guests), a 12-tatami-mat Japanese-style tatami room (for 2 to 4 guests), an 8-tatami-mat Western-style double room (for 2 guests), a 12-tatami-mat Japanese-Western twin room (for 2 guests), and a detached cottage (for 2 to 5 guests, best suited to parties of 4 or 5). Every room uses Airweave bedding. In the Japanese-style tatami rooms, futons are laid out according to the number of guests, but guests lay out the futons themselves. The detached cottage is a separate building from the main house, so small children can be a little lively without you having to worry about other guests. The flooring section of the 16-tatami Japanese-style room has underfloor heating during the cold months, and from autumn to spring a kotatsu (a heated table with a quilt over it) is provided as well, so there is less to worry about with young children on a cold floor.
Dining
Breakfast is Japanese-style and is served in the dining room from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. The menu is built around health-conscious seasonings, homemade miso and natural salt. Dinner is not served, so guests head out into the onsen town to eat. Child rates are set on the stay plans for the 1st-floor 16-tatami Japanese-style tatami room, the 2nd-floor 12-tatami Japanese-style tatami room and the detached cottage.
Baths and Onsen
The three baths - the open-air bath, the cypress bath Tsutsuji-no-Yu and the stone bath Momiji-no-Yu - are all private-hire only, each with a lock, free of charge, and available at any hour of the day or night with no reservation. The water flows straight from Kusatsu Onsen's Bandaiko source, and while a bath is yours there is no chance of sharing it with other guests, so families with small children can bathe without worrying about anyone else. There is also a footbath. The Finnish-style löyly sauna, where water is poured over hot stones, is available for private hire for a fee, and requires a reservation.
Family-Friendly Features
Air purifiers are installed in every guest room, humidifiers are among the in-room equipment, and the whole property is non-smoking, all of which makes for a considerate environment for time with young children. There is a rule to keep quiet after 11 p.m., and guests who would like a livelier evening are directed to the detached cottage. The inn is a 10-minute walk from the Kusatsu Onsen Bus Terminal and about 90 minutes by car from the Shibukawa-Ikaho IC on the Kan-Etsu Expressway. No shuttle service is offered. Parking for 8 cars is free of charge. Kusatsu Onsen Ski Resort is 3 minutes away by car, so skiing and snowboarding are options in winter.
