Kusatsu Onsen Masunariya Ryokan is a three-story wooden Japanese-style ryokan a 1-minute walk from the Yubatake hot-water field, a well-known sightseeing spot in Kusatsu Onsen. Each of its 6 rooms comes with its own private-hire bath, so families can enjoy the onsen on their own without watching the clock or thinking about the people around them. Dinner is served in a private room, and staff come and go only rarely, so families with children can relax over the meal. Please note that there is no elevator and that food allergies cannot be accommodated.
Rooms
There are 6 rooms in total, laid out so that no room adjoins another. Two types are available: 10-tatami Japanese-style tatami rooms for 2 guests, and Japanese-style tatami rooms of 12 tatami mats or more for 2 to 4 guests. Guests cannot choose which room they are given. Every room has an air purifier with a humidifying function. The rooms do not have their own bath; the private-hire bath assigned to each room is located away from the room, and guests are given a key for it. All rooms are non-smoking, and there is a smoking room in the building. Accommodation plans include children's rates.
Dining
Dinner is served in a private room, so you never share a table with other guests. All the dishes are served at once, so staff do not come in and out of the room again and again, and you can eat at your own pace. Breakfast is served in the banquet room on the first or third floor. The dining areas were renovated in April 2025, and one example of a dinner dish is Joshu beef sukiyaki. Please note that the ryokan cannot change dishes or remove ingredients for allergies or personal preferences.
Baths and Private-Hire Baths
There is one communal bath each for men and women, fed by the Shirahata no Yu source. With cypress tubs and a cypress changing area, they let you enjoy the milky-white water regarded as the finest in Kusatsu Onsen. In addition, there are 6 private-hire baths, matching the number of rooms, drawn from two spring sources: 4 from the Yubatake source (tiled) and 2 from the Shirahata source (cypress). Each private-hire bath comes as a set with a room, and you are given its own key from check-in until checkout, so your family can bathe whenever you like on your own. They are not open-air baths. The changing areas have benches and handrails.

The ryokan is a three-story wooden building with no elevator or similar facilities. Stairs are involved in getting around, so take care if you have a stroller or a lot of luggage. Guest rooms have Western-style toilets with a washing function. The changing areas of the private-hire baths have benches and handrails, arranged to make getting in and out of the tub easier. The ryokan values a quiet atmosphere and does not offer mahjong, karaoke or similar entertainment. Food allergies also cannot be accommodated, so please take care if your child has an allergy.
Access
The Yubatake is a 1-minute walk away, and restaurants, souvenir shops and a convenience store nearby are all within easy reach. From Naganohara-Kusatsu Station on the JR Agatsuma Line, it is about 25 minutes by JR bus. There is parking for 6 cars on the property, free of charge and with no reservation needed. The Kusatsu Onsen Ski Resort is also nearby (no shuttle; 5 minutes by car).
