The communal bath draws the Shirohata spring and the open-air bath the Bandaiko spring, both flowing directly from their sources, and there are also tubs kept at different temperatures. The new dining venue, the Yu-kumo buffet, offers live-kitchen sushi and Joshu beef roast beef. Kusatsu Onsen Hotel Ichii is a long-established ryokan founded more than 300 years ago, standing right in front of Yubatake, the symbol of Kusatsu Onsen. It has two buildings, a main building and an annex, and only 23 rooms in the main building look out over Yubatake. The communal bath has tubs kept at different temperatures, so even children who are uncomfortable with very hot water can bathe easily, and the changing room has a baby bed. One child may co-sleep, and children under 1 are not charged a facility fee. Children of around lower elementary school age and under are served a special kids' plate.
Rooms
The main building stands right in front of Yubatake, the symbol of Kusatsu Onsen, while the annex houses the communal bath, the open-air bath and the buffet venue. Only 23 rooms in the main building have a view of Yubatake, and they are very popular. All other rooms, in both the main building and the annex, are standard 10-tatami Japanese-style tatami rooms, and guests cannot specify the building or the view. The annex also has Japanese-style tatami rooms with beds, where a 10-tatami room is fitted with two single beds measuring 110 cm wide by 200 cm long; a co-sleeping child shares an adult's bed. There are also large annex rooms for 4 to 5 guests and special rooms made up of two connected Japanese-style tatami rooms for 2 to 6 guests. All rooms are non-smoking, and smoking is done in the smoking areas on the 3rd floor of the main building or the 2nd floor of the annex.
Dining
Dinner can be chosen from two styles: the Yu-kumo buffet or the Kimi no Roman dining room. The Yu-kumo buffet centers on a live kitchen and serves Japanese, Western and Chinese dishes, including Joshu beef steak and roast beef. A dish recreating the meat loaf served by the okami (the ryokan's hostess) is also among the dishes on offer. At Kimi no Roman, guests choose a freshly cooked main course of either meat or fish, prepared in the open kitchen. The changing room has valuables lockers and a baby bed. There is no private-hire bath. Bathing hours are from 3 p.m. to 2 a.m. and from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m., and the men's and women's baths are swapped every day. Child rates are 70% of the adult rate for elementary school children in both the upper and lower grades, and 50% of the adult rate for infants and toddlers with meals and bedding. Infants and toddlers with bedding but no meals, and those with meals but no bedding, cannot be accommodated, so bookings for bedding only or meals only are not possible. Elementary school children in the lower grades, grades 1 to 3, can be booked on the meals-and-bedding plan intended for children who have not yet started elementary school, and their meal is the kids' plate. Children under 1 do not need to be entered in the number of guests and are not charged a facility fee. Guest rooms have Western-style toilets, the communal bath tubs have handrails, and wheelchairs are available to borrow. If anyone has a food allergy, you need to tell the hotel the number of people and the details at least 3 days before your stay.
