Overview
Grand Mercure Yatsugatake Resort & Spa is an all-weather family resort hotel at the foot of the Yatsugatake mountains. Its basement-level Mori no 8 has a Kids Mountain Area for children who have not yet started elementary school and a tricycle circuit for elementary school-age children and up, so kids can play all day regardless of the weather. Rooms measure 36 sq m or more, including Japanese-modern family rooms with full-flat tatami flooring and low beds. The onsen has no age restriction for babies, and a baby bath is available in the communal bath.
Rooms
Standard rooms offer a comfortable 36 sq m or more. Options range from the Classic Twin (not yet renovated) (36.1 sq m, 2 beds, capacity 1-4 guests) to the Executive Twin, renovated in April 2024 (2 single beds and 2 extra beds, with co-sleeping for up to 2 children). In December 2025, the Japanese-style rooms were renovated as Japanese-modern family rooms with step-free, full-flat tatami flooring and 2 low beds. Because the beds are low, the risk of children falling from them is minimized. Up to 3 futon sets can be laid on the tatami area, allowing stays for up to 5 guests, plus 3 co-sleeping children. Guests lay out the futons themselves in Japanese-style tatami rooms and Japanese-Western rooms.
Dining
Both breakfast and dinner are served buffet-style, with dishes made using local Yamanashi ingredients. Baby food, children's tableware and chairs are available so families can eat together. Baby food is prepared for children aged 5 to 12 months; ask the dining-area staff if you would like it. Children's chairs are limited in number, but staff can prepare one when asked. The restaurant labels the use of 9 major allergens: eggs, milk, wheat, buckwheat, peanuts, shrimp, crab, walnuts and cashews. Elementary school-age children pay the same rate as adults. For children ages 3 to preschool age, selecting “meals and bedding” means paying the adult rate; selecting “meals only” incurs a meal charge including the facility-use fee, with no bedding provided. Children ages 0-2 who co-sleep should be booked with “no meals and no bedding,” and a facility-use fee of 1,100 yen including tax applies.
Baths and Onsen
Both the communal bath and open-air bath use a gentle sodium bicarbonate onsen. There is no age restriction for babies bathing in the onsen, and a baby bath is available in the communal bath. A baby bed is also placed in the changing room. Children of elementary school age and up must use the men's bath if they are boys and the women's bath if they are girls. There are stairs just before the communal bath entrance. Day-use bathing is not accepted. Guests with tattoos may only bathe if the tattoos can be fully covered with tattoo cover seals (8 x 10 cm, up to 2 seals). Cover seals are available at the on-site shop.

At night, the Yatsugatake SoRa Deck & Astronomical Dome hosts stargazing sessions from 20:00 to 21:30; during cloudy or stormy weather, a stargazing slide show is shown at Mori no 8. There is no pool at the property.

By car, it is about 15 minutes from Nagasaka IC on the Chuo Expressway. Parking is available for 175 cars and is free for staying guests.
