Grand Mercure Yatsugatake Resort & Spa is an all-weather amusement hotel set in the foothills of the Yatsugatake mountains. On the first basement floor, Mori no 8 has the Kids Mountain Area for children who have not yet started elementary school and a tricycle circuit for elementary school children and older, so kids can play all day whatever the weather. Rooms are 36 sq m or larger, and you can also choose a Japanese-modern family room with flat, step-free tatami flooring and low beds. The onsen has no age restriction for babies, and a baby bath is provided in the communal bath.
Rooms
Standard rooms are a generous 36 sq m or larger. There are several types, from the unrenovated Classic Twin (36.1 sq m, 2 beds, 1 to 4 guests) to the Executive Twin renovated in April 2024 (2 single beds and 2 extra beds, with co-sleeping for up to 2 children). In December 2025, the Japanese-style tatami rooms were renewed as Japanese-modern family rooms, with flat, step-free tatami flooring and 2 low beds. Because the beds sit low, the risk of a child falling out is kept to a minimum. Up to 3 sets of futon bedding can be laid out on the tatami area, so the room sleeps up to 5 guests, plus 3 co-sleeping children. In the Japanese-style tatami rooms and Japanese-Western rooms, futons are self-service, and guests lay them out themselves.

Breakfast and dinner are both served buffet-style, with dishes made from local Yamanashi ingredients. Baby food, children's tableware and children's chairs are available, so the whole family can eat together. Baby food is prepared for babies aged 5 to 12 months; if you would like it, just ask a member of staff in the dining area. Children's chairs are limited in number, but staff will set one up if you ask. The restaurant labels the use of the 9 major allergens: egg, milk, wheat, buckwheat, peanut, shrimp, crab, walnut and cashew. Elementary school children pay the same rate as adults. For children from age 3 who have not yet started elementary school, choosing meals and futon bedding means paying the adult rate; if you choose meals only, a meal charge that includes the facility-use fee applies, and no bedding is provided. For co-sleeping children aged 0 to 2, choose the no meals and no futon bedding option, and a facility-use fee of 1,100 yen (tax included) applies.
Baths and Onsen
Both the communal bath and the open-air bath use onsen water, a soft sodium bicarbonate spring. There is no age restriction for babies bathing, and a baby bath is provided inside the communal bath. A baby bed is also placed in the changing room. Elementary school children and older must use the bath for their own sex: boys use the men's bath and girls the women's bath. There are stairs just before the entrance to the communal bath. Day-use bathing is not accepted. Guests with tattoos may bathe only if the tattoos can be covered with tattoo cover seals (8 x 10 cm, up to 2 seals), which are available at the on-site shop.

Mori no Lounge on the 3rd floor has a Train Room where children play with wooden rails and an Activity Room with a wooden ball pit, open from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. On the rooftop, the Yatsugatake SoRa Deck & Astronomical Dome hosts an evening stargazing session (8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.); on cloudy or stormy nights, a starry-sky slide show is screened at Mori no 8 instead. Please note that there is no pool at the hotel.

From Kobuchizawa Station on the JR Chuo Main Line, change to the Koumi Line. From Kai-Oizumi Station, a shuttle bus that needs no reservation takes about 5 minutes (about 15 minutes on foot). By car, it is about 15 minutes from Nagasaka IC on the Chuo Expressway. There is parking for 179 cars, free for staying guests. Checkout is at 11 a.m. If the room is available, you can extend your stay by up to 3 hours for 25% of the room rate.
