Alongside the 25 m adult pool, about 90 cm deep, there is a children's pool about 50 cm deep and an inflatable kiddie pool for toddlers. Children may use them wearing a swim diaper, and staying guests can use them free of charge.

Overview
Awakan, in Sumoto Onsen on Awaji Island, is an experience-focused ryokan whose signature feature is the private fishing spot on its grounds. Fishing gear and bait are free, and staff are on hand to help, so even families with young children can enjoy it. Children ages 0 to 2 stay free of charge, and children ages 3 to 5, who have not yet started elementary school, and elementary school children have rates set by age. Family facilities are generous, including private-hire kids' rooms and a kids' space, and the communal baths, which include open-air baths, use the alkaline simple onsen of Sumoto Onsen.
Rooms
There are 63 rooms in total: 52 Japanese-style tatami rooms, 6 Japanese-Western rooms, 3 rooms with an open-air bath and 2 special rooms. The 10-tatami and 8-tatami Japanese-style rooms in the South Wing sleep 1 to 5 guests, with a broad window-side space, an entrance step area, a bath and a toilet alongside the main tatami room, and every room has a washlet bidet toilet. March 2025 also saw the opening of the Shinkai Floor, with new rooms whose open-air baths look out over the sea and sky. Rooms on the Shinkai Floor have their own passage leading directly to the private fishing spot, so guests can head out to fish whenever they like.
Dining
When adults choose the kaiseki course, elementary school children ages 6 to 12 are served a children's kaiseki, and children ages 3 to 5, who have not yet started elementary school, are served a Kids Plate. On buffet plans, children can choose the same dishes as adults. The dining areas have children's chairs as well as toddler chairs with a belt. Allergy-causing ingredients can be accommodated if you let the ryokan know by phone or email in advance; requests made on the day of your stay may not all be possible. Fish caught at the private fishing spot can be cooked for you if you bring it to the front desk at least one hour before your scheduled dinner time: up to 5 fish of 20 cm or under are prepared for 660 yen, served as sashimi, simmered, deep-fried or salt-grilled, whichever you prefer.
Baths and Onsen
There are 2 communal baths, the Uzushio communal bath on the first floor and the Panorama communal bath on the second floor, and both the indoor baths and the open-air baths use Sumoto Onsen's Uruoi no Yu. The spring water is an alkaline simple onsen, said to be beneficial for recovery from fatigue, sensitivity to cold, neuralgia and lower back pain. The first-floor changing room has a ganbanyoku (heated-stone) bed, a baby bed and a water server, and the second-floor changing room also has a baby bed and a water server. The communal baths provide step stools for young children, Bumbo bath seats and children's shampoo, all free of charge. Barrier-free toilets are located in front of the first-floor communal bath and at Sumoto Jokamachi on the fifth floor.

Children may use the pool wearing a swim diaper. Children's yukata come in three sizes, 100, 120 and 140 cm, and jinbei (a light two-piece summer outfit) in sizes 80 cm and under are available for toddlers. Sumoto Jokamachi, the fully private dining area on the fifth floor of the South Wing, has its own kids' room called Teramachi, and using it requires booking the dedicated accommodation plan. Note that cribs and children's futons are not available for guest rooms; for children ages 2 and under, an adult futon can be added for 6,600 yen, including bedding and amenities.
Access
By car, the ryokan is about 15 minutes from the Sumoto Interchange. If you come by train or plane, take a highway bus from the nearest station to the Sumoto Bus Center, then call the ryokan and a shuttle bus will come to pick you up. There are 80 parking spaces, available free of charge.
