Awajishima Kaijo Hotel

Awajishima Kaijo Hotel stands right in front of Fukura Bay in the southern part of Awaji Island, an onsen ryokan in the Minami-Awaji onsen area (Uzushio Onsen). Its appeal lies in the views of the sunset and the sea from every room, and in activities the whole family can enjoy.

The biggest draw for families is the hotel's private fishing pier. First-timers and young children can try fishing without any fuss, and the fish you land can be cooked for you as a separate order, so your child can eat a fish they caught themselves. Another welcome point is that you can turn up empty-handed.

The baths are onsen. There is also Kaie, a special Japanese-Western room with a view bath facing the sea, available to just one group per day, where you can bathe while watching the water from your own room. Even with a very young baby, choosing the room with the view bath means you can bathe without having to think about the communal bath.

Meals are made with seasonal ingredients that convey nature's bounty and the turning of the seasons. You can taste the flavors of each season, including wild hamo (conger pike) from Awaji Island, momiji-dai (autumn sea bream) and Awaji three-year torafugu (tiger pufferfish).

As for the location, Fukura Port is right nearby, where the Uzushio Cruise brings you close to one of the world's largest whirlpools. Awaji Ningyoza (the Awaji puppet theater) is also in Fukura, making this an ideal base for sightseeing with children.

The hotel is about 7 minutes by car from the Awajishima-minami Interchange. Note that the fishing pier and the cooking of your catch have set terms and prices, so please confirm these directly when you book, along with meals and items to borrow for babies. The hotel is barrier-free and accessible by wheelchair, and wheelchairs are available to borrow. Guest rooms have Western-style toilets, and the tubs in the communal bath have handrails.
