Overview

GRAND CHARIOT Hokuto-shichisei 135° sits inside Nijigen no Mori, the anime park in Hyogo Prefectural Awaji Island Park, and its rooms are freestanding villas (Cocoons), each in its own building. Every room has a hinoki (Japanese cypress) bath, and guests can also have a private-hire spa building, with a sauna and a communal bath, to themselves for 60 minutes. Children aged 0 to 3 can co-sleep, up to 2 per room, while children aged 4 and over count toward room capacity. Kids' plates are available at dinner and breakfast, and children aged 4 and over can switch to one free of charge. There is no onsen and no pool.

Rooms

Each guest room is a freestanding villa, set on the highest ground in Nijigen no Mori. The villas are almost free of noise and have skylights at least 5 m high. Kaze no Cocoon is a 50 sq m twin (terrace included) for 1 to 2 guests, with two beds measuring 110 cm wide, 195 cm long and 40 cm high. Kaze no Cocoon also comes with a humidifier. Sora no Cocoon is a 60 sq m twin for 1 to 2 guests.

Rooms for 3 or more guests include Mori no Cocoon (70 sq m, for 2 to 4 guests, with plenty of room for a family stay) and Hoshi no Cocoon (75 sq m). Hoshi no Cocoon is limited to 3 villas with a guaranteed night view, and sleeps up to 4: 2 in single beds and 2 in a bunk bed. There is also Mori no Dog Cocoon, a room for guests traveling with their dog (70 sq m, for 4 guests).

The character rooms include two Godzilla rooms: Showa Toho Kaiju Shiryoshitsu (Showa Toho Monster Archive Room, 50 sq m), with single beds for 2 guests, and Kaiju Land (60 sq m), for 3 guests per room, with 2 in single beds and 1 on an extra bed. The Monster Hunter rooms are Shukaijo no Cocoon (Gathering Hub Cocoon, 70 sq m), for up to 4 guests, and My House no Cocoon (50 sq m), for up to 2. The NARUTO room, Akatsuki no Cocoon (75 sq m), sleeps up to 4: 2 in single beds and 2 in a bunk bed. Others include Slime no Cocoon (Wa, Japanese-style; 60 sq m, 3 guests per room), Ora no Cocoon and Hello Kitty Hoshi no Cocoon (each for 4 guests).

Rooms have no microwave or tableware, but they do have an electric kettle and a refrigerator. The villas are not barrier-free, and there is no kitchen or washing machine. Pets are allowed only in the rooms for guests traveling with their dog.

Dining

Dinner and breakfast are both served in the restaurant building. For children, a kids' plate is available at both meals. At dinner it has a main dish such as specially selected Awaji beef prepared for children, with an organic salad, fried food, udon, chawanmushi (savory steamed egg custard) and more; at breakfast, an organic salad, bacon, a fried egg and more. Children aged 4 and over are charged the accommodation rate, and switching their dinner and breakfast to a kids' plate is free of charge. For children aged 3 and under, rice and miso soup can be provided free of charge on request. Requests to switch to children's meals and allergy notices must be made by 3 days before your stay; let the hotel know about allergies in the remarks field when you book. The kitchen will remove allergens wherever it can, but this may sometimes be difficult. You can ask to have baby food warmed at the restaurant building or the reception building. In-room dining can be chosen only in the rooms for guests traveling with their dog, for an additional 2,420 yen per person per meal (tax and service charge included).

Baths

Every room has a hinoki (Japanese cypress) bath, so the family can bathe on their own. Guests can also have a private-hire spa building, with a sauna and a communal bath, to themselves for 60 minutes; it is open from 3:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Time slots are assigned in order of reservation, so your preferred time may not be available. The enzyme bath requires a separate advance reservation. The water is not onsen. The hotel's FAQ says that there is no communal bath and that every room has a hinoki bath. Whether children who are not yet out of diapers can get into the tub at the private-hire spa is not stated, so please confirm with the hotel.

Family-Friendly Features

Children aged 0 to 3 can co-sleep, up to 2 per room, and co-sleeping children are not included in the number of guests when you book. If you would like your child to co-sleep, you need to contact the hotel before booking. The accommodation rate applies from age 4, and children aged 4 and over count toward room capacity just as adults do. Some booking sites list, in their children's rate tables, upper and lower elementary school children and infants and toddlers with bedding at 100% of the adult rate, and infants and toddlers without bedding as not accepted. This conflicts with the co-sleeping information, so please confirm before booking. Crib or baby futon rentals are not listed. There is no pool.

Access

The hotel is inside Nijigen no Mori, the anime park in Hyogo Prefectural Awaji Island Park, about 3 minutes by car from Awaji IC. Park in Parking Lot F (free for staying guests), then contact the hotel when you arrive and a dedicated car will pick you up. Crayon Shin-chan Adventure Park, within the park grounds, is a paid attraction separate from the hotel, and it includes a children's area recreating Futaba Kindergarten. To use the attractions, riders must be aged 5 and over, 110 cm or taller and 25 kg or more; these are not conditions for staying at the hotel. Children aged 4 and under can enter the area free of charge (the Warabe Course and Nonbiri Nohara Area experiences cost extra). Check-in is from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and checkout is at 11 a.m. For an additional 3,630 yen (tax and service charge included), you can check out late at 12 p.m. or check in early from 2 p.m.
