Kansai All-Day Hotels
Kansai Hotels for a Full Day With Kids: Indoor Play, Pools and Buffets
Whether you can spend a rainy day or a cold winter day entirely inside the hotel comes down to three things: an indoor play area, a pool, and a buffet. We sorted stays in Awaji Island, Wakayama, Arima, Kyoto, Lake Biwa, Nara, and Osaka by the facilities we have confirmed.

When you choose a family hotel in Kansai, it is natural to wonder whether you can get through a whole day inside, even in the rain or the middle of winter. Keeping kids entertained from checkout until evening, while also cutting down on meal planning, is a worry most parents share. The best way to judge is to check whether the hotel has all three of these under one roof: an indoor play area, a pool, and a buffet.
Among the hotels in this collection, the ones that offer all three are Grand Mercure Awaji Island Resort & Spa and Awakan on Awaji Island, Grand Mercure Wakayama Minabe Resort & Spa in Wakayama, and Mercure Kyoto Miyazu Resort & Spa in Kyoto. Each has a kids' dining corner and a kids' space. Keep in mind, though, that the pools are mostly outdoors, and many of these hotels list them as open in summer only.
In Nanki-Shirahama, Hotel Seamore has an indoor playroom, an infinity pool, a children's pool, and a buffet restaurant. TAOYA Shirahama Senjo has a hot spring pool that is open year-round, a kids' park with large play equipment inside the hotel, and baby food available at the restaurant. If you want water play in winter too, good options include the indoor heated pools at Motoyu Ryusenkaku in Arima Onsen and Sumoto Onsen Yumekaiyu on Awaji Island, plus the year-round pool at Spaworld Hotel & Resort in Osaka.
On days when you do not want the weather to dictate your plans, a hotel that keeps everything indoors is reassuring. Nara Plaza Hotel has an indoor kids' area of about 1,000 square meters, and Anda no Mori Osaka Tennoji Tower is a 3-minute walk from Tennoji Station and has free kids' facilities and a buffet. Hotel Green Plaza Tojoko has a dedicated floor for babies and baby food matched to each age in months. Pool seasons, fees, and age rules differ from hotel to hotel, so please also check the latest information on each hotel's official website and your booking site.
Features to look for in this collection
Hotels With Indoor Play, a Pool, and a Buffet Are Mostly in Awaji Island and Wakayama
Grand Mercure Awaji Island and Awakan on Awaji Island, Grand Mercure Wakayama Minabe in Wakayama, and Mercure Kyoto Miyazu in Kyoto all have a kids' dining corner, a play space, and a pool on site. Nanki-Shirahama also has hotels with an indoor play area, a pool, and buffet-style meals: Hotel Seamore and TAOYA Shirahama Senjo. Many of the pools are outdoor or open in summer only, so the quickest way to choose is to check first whether the pool season matches your travel dates. In Nanki-Shirahama, Shirahama Yanagiya (a family-focused inn) also has an indoor playroom and a summer-only elephant pool. It does not list a buffet, though. Instead, you choose from a kids' meal or a baby meal (order by 5:00 p.m. the day before), or have your meal served in your Japanese-style or Japanese-Western room (called heya-shoku, or room dining).

Awaji Island
Grand Mercure Awaji Island has a kids' lounge of about 460 square meters, an outdoor garden pool in summer, and a buffet with a kids' corner, all in the hotel.

Nanki-Shirahama
Hotel Seamore has a playroom with a bouldering wall and an infinity pool. TAOYA Shirahama Senjo has a year-round hot spring pool and a kids' park with large play equipment.
For a Full Day Indoors, Spaworld and Anda no Mori in Osaka Are the Easiest Picks
Spaworld has a year-round pool, and Anda no Mori has free kids' facilities and a buffet, so both work no matter what the weather does. Nara Plaza Hotel's indoor kids' area and the baby floor at Hotel Green Plaza Tojoko fit the same idea.

Osaka
Spaworld Hotel & Resort has a year-round pool and a kids' space called Yuttamari. Anda no Mori Osaka Tennoji Tower has a ball pit, a zip line, and a buffet inside the hotel.
For Winter Trips, Choose a Hotel With an Indoor Heated Pool
If you want water play in winter, look for a hotel whose indoor or heated pool is stated to be open year-round. Motoyu Ryusenkaku, Yumekaiyu, Spaworld, and TAOYA Shirahama Senjo fit that description. Hotel Seamore's outdoor pool is mainly for summer and for spring and autumn, when the water is heated, and the pool at Kyukamura Omihachiman is summer only. For winter stays at those two, plan around the indoor play areas and hot springs.

Arima Onsen
Motoyu Ryusenkaku has an indoor heated pool open year-round, and rental swim rings and swimsuits are available.

Awaji Island
Sumoto Onsen Yumekaiyu has a shallow indoor heated pool open all year, free for hotel guests.
Lake Biwa Is All About Summer Pools and Lakeside Play
Kyukamura Omihachiman (a national resort hotel chain) has a heart-shaped pool in summer and a swimming beach right in front of the hotel. It is not suited to winter pool play, but it offers rental play equipment on its lawn and an Omi beef dinner buffet, so a lakeside stay is still enjoyable. Grand Mercure Lake Biwa Resort & Spa in Nagahama has a summer-only garden pool with a children's pool 50 cm to 110 cm deep, and pool use is included in the room rate. Meals are buffet style, and baby food is available if you ask the staff. The hotel also has a play corner with table tennis and board games.

Lake Biwa
Kyukamura Omihachiman has a baby bed in the large bath's changing room, and its restaurant offers high chairs and children's tableware.
Tips for traveling with kids
- checkMany pools are open in summer only, so check the hotel's official website before booking to make sure the pool will be open on your travel dates. That keeps your plans from falling apart on the day.
- checkNara Plaza Hotel's indoor leisure pool is described as a limited-period attraction with a separate fee. If you want water play all year, choose a hotel that clearly states year-round use.
- checkBaby food at buffets varies by hotel. Grand Mercure Awaji Island offers ready-made baby food, while Anda no Mori provides baby food matched to each age in months, free of charge. It helps to tell the staff in advance what your baby can eat.
- checkRental items such as baby beds and bed guards are limited in number, and some hotels recommend noting your request in the comments field when you book. Reserving early is the safer choice.
- checkMany hotels need advance notice for food allergies. Hotel New Awaji asks for notice by 3 days before your stay. Let them know as soon as your dates are set.
- checkPool rules for children who are not toilet trained differ from hotel to hotel. Our collection of Kansai hotels with pools explains how swim diapers are handled.
