There are two private-hire open-air baths, both free of charge. They are normally used once per night per stay, reserved for 50-minute slots starting on the hour, with reservations taken at check-in. The hours are 3 p.m. to midnight and 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. Kodakara no Yu is a private-hire open-air bath for about 2 to 4 people, and Tomo no Yu is a private-hire semi-open-air bath for 1 or 2 people.

The clear Yoshina River runs through the grounds of about 36,000 tsubo, where you can stroll through Tofuya Garden. On Mount Kodakara within the grounds there is a scenic spot called Fujimidaira with views of Mount Fuji, but reaching it means climbing a gentle hiking trail about 40 minutes each way from the entrance building, which is a long way with young children. Sneakers are available to borrow free of charge at the entrance building. In the garden you can eat bread bought to take away from Bakery & Table.

Tofuya Resort & Spa-Izu is a Japanese-style resort in Yoshina Onsen, Izu, with guest rooms, dining areas and hot springs spread across grounds of about 36,000 tsubo (a Japanese unit of land area). Every detached Villa Suite has an onsen open-air bath, and the Main Building and West Building hold Japanese-style tatami rooms and Japanese-Western rooms with semi-open-air onsen baths; every room that has a bath uses Yoshina Onsen water. Two private-hire open-air baths are free of charge, so families with young children who find the communal bath difficult can still enjoy the onsen on their own. Do note that bookings that include children under school age are not accepted online and must be made by phone.
Rooms
There are 30 guest rooms, divided among the detached villas, the West Building and the Main Building. Every detached Villa Suite has an onsen open-air bath. Its Japanese-Western rooms are 72 sq m (an 8-tatami room plus a living room, a bedroom and a terrace) and sleep up to 4 guests. The maisonette Western-style rooms along the river have 39 sq m on the first floor plus 33 sq m on the second; the twin-bed type is for 1-2 guests, while the type with twin beds plus a double bed sleeps up to 4, with a double bed 160 cm wide on the first floor and two single beds on the second. In the Villa Suite maisonette Western-style rooms, parties of 3 or 4 sleep in bedrooms split between the first and second floors, and with 4 guests two people share the first-floor double bed; no extra bed can be added. In the West Building, Japanese-Western Room A with a semi-open-air onsen bath is 72 sq m, with a 12.5-tatami main room and a bed and living area by the riverside window, and Japanese-Western Room B is 69 sq m. In the Main Building, the Japanese-style tatami room with a semi-open-air onsen bath along the river is 67 sq m with futon bedding, made up of a 12.5-tatami main room and a 7.5-tatami antechamber; in winter the antechamber is set up with sunken-floor (horigotatsu) seating. This is the only room at Tofuya without a bed. The Japanese-style twin room with a semi-open-air onsen bath along the river is 54 sq m, and from 3 guests onward this room is used with futon bedding. The Main Building maisonette Kura no Ma is 90 sq m (41 sq m on the first floor plus 49 sq m on the second), and the bedroom can be laid out with two to four beds for 2-4 guests. The building and all guest rooms are non-smoking, and the entire grounds, outdoor areas included, are non-smoking as well.
Dining
Dinner and breakfast are both served in the dining areas; in-room dining is not available. For dinner you choose between a kaiseki course and a shabu-shabu course (for 2 or more guests), and for breakfast between a Japanese and a Western breakfast. With an advance reservation, breakfast can also be switched to brunch at the on-site bakery cafe Bakery & Table Tofuya. Meals are sometimes served in two seatings, so your preferred time may not always be available. There is no information published about kids' meals or meals for young children. For food allergies, the resort will do what it can regarding the 8 specified allergenic ingredients, and advance consultation is required. Baths and Onsen
The spring water is an alkaline simple onsen, colorless and clear with a soft feel on the skin. It combines free-flowing and recirculated water, and is heated, diluted with water and chlorinated (the open-air bath Gyoki no Yu and the private-hire Kodakara no Yu are not diluted with water). The communal baths comprise two open-air baths that alternate between men and women, plus one indoor bath each for men and women; the open-air baths and indoor baths are in separate buildings, some distance apart. There are two private-hire open-air baths, Kodakara no Yu and Tomo no Yu. Both are free of charge and reserved for 50-minute slots starting on the hour, normally once per night per stay. Reservations are taken at check-in. Kodakara no Yu is a private-hire open-air bath roomy enough for about 2 to 4 people, with a roof and two washing stations; Tomo no Yu is a private-hire semi-open-air bath for 1 or 2 people with only one washing station. Family-Friendly Notes
Stays that include children under school age cannot be booked online and need to be discussed by phone. The online plans display "co-sleeping not available" and "babies and toddlers cannot be accepted, whether or not meals and bedding are included," but these are the acceptance categories for online booking and do not mean that you cannot stay with children under school age. Rakuten Travel's property information likewise states that bookings accompanied by children under school age are taken only by direct phone call, so if you want to stay with a baby, toddler or another child under school age, please call the ryokan to discuss it. Elementary school children, both younger and older grades, pay 70% of the adult rate. The special kaiseki plan (the upgraded special cuisine plan) does not accept children of elementary school age and under. There is no information published about cribs or baby futons. A humidifier is provided as room equipment. Colored yukata and samue work jackets are available to borrow at the entrance building, free of charge. Games including Othello, playing cards and UNO are available to borrow, as are a thermometer and nail clippers. On the first floor of the guest lounge Taishokan Hosen, coffee, a range of teas and soft drinks are free from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and the lounge can be used even before check-in. Many parts of the property are difficult to make barrier-free, with numerous steps and stairs and many areas without an elevator, so take care when moving around with a stroller. Calling ahead is recommended.
Access
Take the bus 20 minutes from Shuzenji Station on the Izuhakone Railway and get off at Yoshina Onsenguchi; call the ryokan once you reach the bus stop and a shuttle takes you the rest of the way in about 3 minutes. The free shuttle bus from Shuzenji Station runs by reservation only, and services without a reservation are not operated. By car it is about 45 minutes (38 km) from Numazu IC on the Tomei Expressway. There is parking for 154 cars, outdoors and uncovered, free of charge and with no reservation required. Check-in is from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and checkout is at 11 a.m.; plans booked through the resort's own website that qualify come with a late checkout at 12 p.m. A bathing tax of 150 yen per adult is payable on site. The clear Yoshina River runs through the grounds, and you can stroll through Tofuya Garden. Fireflies can usually be seen on the grounds in mid-June, and from mid-May to early July there is also a shuttle to a nearby firefly-viewing spot about 10 minutes away by car.
