Overview
Shimoda Onsen Hotel Izukyu is a hot-spring hotel standing right in front of Shirahama Beach. It draws on two spring sources: Ryujin no Yu, a weakly alkaline sulfate spring that feeds the open-air bath, and Rendaiji no Yu, a simple onsen that feeds the communal bath. The open-air bath is one of the largest in Izu. In summer the garden pool opens, with separate pools for adults and children. Children ages 2 and under stay free of charge, and rental items such as a diaper bin, a baby bath and a toilet-training seat are on hand.
Rooms
There is a Japanese-style tatami room (10 tatami mats, up to 5 guests), a Western-style room (36 sq m, up to 3 guests; when 3 guests stay, one sleeps in an extra bed), a Japanese-Western room where futon bedding for 2 can be laid out in the tatami corner (36 sq m, up to 4 guests), and a special room with two Japanese-style rooms (14 tatami mats plus 6 tatami mats, up to 7 guests). Special rooms with a view bath sit on the 2nd floor of the main building's ocean side (10 tatami mats plus 6 tatami mats, up to 6 guests, in Japanese-style or Japanese-Western layouts). On the 5th floor of the main building's ocean side are two Western-style rooms with a view bath: the Superior Twin View Bathroom (36 sq m, up to 3 guests; with 3 guests, one sleeps in an extra bed) and the Deluxe Twin View Bathroom (42 sq m, up to 3 guests; with 3 guests, one sleeps in an extra bed). In the Japanese-style and Japanese-Western rooms, guests lay out the futon bedding themselves.
Dining
Dinner is Japanese cuisine centered on seafood, and breakfast is a Japanese and Western buffet. If you would like the hotel to accommodate a food allergy, please let them know at least 7 days before your stay. The breakfast and dinner buffets cannot be adjusted for individual allergies, so guests check the allergen chart and decide for themselves. The hotel may not be able to accommodate severe food allergies.
Baths and Onsen
There are two spring sources: Ryujin no Yu, a weakly alkaline sulfate spring, and Rendaiji no Yu, a simple onsen. Ryujin no Yu wells up on the property and feeds the open-air bath, while Rendaiji no Yu is piped to the communal bath. You can also bathe in Ryujin no Yu in the private-hire bath, which costs 2,200 yen including tax for 50 minutes and requires an advance reservation. The private-hire bath is one option if you would like to bathe with your child without worrying about other guests.
