A nature-focused whole-building stay in the hills of Minamiizu

This whole-building rental sits on about 20,000 tsubo (about 66,000 sq m) of grounds in Irima, Minamiizu-cho, Shizuoka, at the southern tip of the Izu Peninsula. You can choose from buildings of different types: the four-bedroom hinoki cypress traditional house, built with cypress the owner cut from the mountain himself; the Garden Villa, a two-story four-bedroom building with a large covered wooden deck for barbecues; and the cone-roofed glamping structure Instant House on the Hill, added in 2022. Because each building is rented whole, families and groups can enjoy a lively stay without worrying about other guests.

Wide grounds where children can play in nature

The grounds include Inochi no Mori, a walking trail that climbs to the summit, so you can set off on a nature walk. A stream runs behind the buildings, and catching insects and playing in the water there is a favorite with children. You can also use the tennis courts on the grounds (a 1-3 minute walk) on the day, or fire up the covered barbecue deck without worrying about the weather - there is plenty of room to enjoy the outdoors. In the evening the illuminations come on from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., and indoors you can enjoy karaoke, or mahjong by reservation.

Baths, onsen and pool

Each building has its own bathroom with a bath and toilet, so your family has a private bath to itself. There is no communal bath, onsen, sauna or pool on the property, but some plans come with free day-use bathing passes for the town-run onsen Gin no Yu Kaikan, about 5 minutes away by car and closed on Wednesdays, so you can enjoy an onsen as well.

Access to the sea and sightseeing

Nakagi Port, the gateway to the secluded Hirizohama beach where tropical fish swim, is about 7 minutes away by car, and Yumigahama, one of Japan's 100 selected beaches, is about 10 minutes by car. Outdoor leisure spots such as Mera, Irozaki Ocean Park and Irima Senjojiki are dotted around the area, with rock-pool play, snorkeling and canoeing to make the most of the sea. Supermarkets and convenience stores are about 15 minutes away by car, so having a car makes getting around easier.

Access and basic information

By train, take a local bus from Izukyu-Shimoda Station on the Izukyu Line to the Sashida bus stop, then walk about 5 minutes; there are few buses, so check the times in advance. Check-in is from 3 p.m. to midnight, and checkout is at 10 a.m. Check-in is handled at Sakura Tennis Club (249-2 Irima). Parking is free for 30 cars, with no reservation needed. Small dogs are welcome, at 2,500 yen per night.
