Overview
Ooedo Onsen Monogatari Premium Ikaho is an onsen ryokan near the Ishidan-gai stone-step street of Ikaho Onsen, where the communal baths offer two kinds of onsen: Kogane no Yu (golden water) and Shirogane no Yu (silver water). Breakfast and dinner are both buffets in the restaurant. The restaurant provides baby food free of charge and has children's tableware and chairs. The changing rooms of the communal baths have baby beds, and baby baths and baby chairs are provided as well. There is no private-hire bath, so bathing with your children means using the communal baths, which alternate between men and women, or choosing a room with an in-room bath.
Rooms
There is a wide range of room types, including Japanese-style tatami rooms, Japanese-Western rooms and Japanese-style Bed Twin rooms with beds placed on the tatami. The Standard Japanese-style room comes in 10 tatami mats for 1 to 3 guests (the 10-tatami room without an in-room bath is in front of the restaurant and sleeps 1 to 2) and 12 tatami mats for 1 to 4 guests. Some rooms of these two types are reached by climbing one floor's worth of stairs. The Standard Japanese-Western Twin (6 tatami) is 41 sq m for 1 to 4 guests; it is reached by a flight of about 18 steps, and for 2 or more guests the futons are laid out in advance. The Standard Japanese-Western Twin (10 tatami) is 52 sq m for 1 to 6 guests.
The Standard Japanese-style Bed Twin is 38 sq m for 1 to 3 guests, the 10.5 + 4.5 tatami type is 51 sq m for 1 to 6 guests, and the 12.5 + 4.5 tatami type is 57 sq m for 1 to 7 guests. All three have two semi-double beds and one sofa bed, and in the latter two types the futons are laid out in advance for 4 or more guests. The Superior Japanese-style room (11 tatami) sleeps 1 to 4 guests and has no in-room bath. There are also the Superior Twin (1 to 3 guests), the Superior Japanese-Western Twin in 6 tatami (1 to 4 guests) and 8 tatami (1 to 5 guests), and a special maisonette room, the Superior Japanese-Western Maisonette Twin (1 to 6 guests). The in-room baths are not onsen. The property is not barrier-free, and there are steps at places such as the room entrances and the entrances to the onsen.
Dining
Dinner and breakfast are both buffets in the restaurant; in-room dining is not available. Dinner is served from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and breakfast from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., though hours may change depending on the number of guests that day. Meal times cannot be reserved in advance; requests are taken in order of check-in, so if you want your children to eat early, plan to check in early. The restaurant provides baby food free of charge; just ask the staff if you would like some. Children's tableware and chairs are available too. The special-order grilled king crab, and the snow crab, lavish seafood grill and Akagi beef cooked on a ceramic plate on stay plans that include them, are served only to guests of elementary school age and older. Individually prepared meals for food allergies are not available, and individual ingredient labeling is not provided. You may bring food and tableware that are safe for your child.
Baths and Onsen
The two communal baths, Iwane and Konoha, alternate between men and women, and offer two kinds of onsen: Kogane no Yu and Shirogane no Yu. The open-air bath at Iwane is a rock bath filled with the brownish Kogane no Yu, while the indoor baths at both are the clear, colorless Shirogane no Yu. The open-air bath may be closed depending on the weather. Hours are 3 p.m. to midnight and 5 a.m. to 10 a.m., and the baths cannot be used while they are drained and cleaned. There is no private-hire bath and no sauna. No towels or bath towels are provided at the baths, so bring the ones from your room. The baths have handrails. Children aged 7 and over or 120 cm or taller use the bath for their own gender. Whether children who are not yet out of diapers may get into the tubs is not stated, so please confirm with the hotel. Guests with tattoos cannot use the communal baths, except when the tattoos can be completely covered with the hotel's designated cover seals (available for a fee).
Family-Friendly Features
The changing rooms of both the women's and the men's communal baths have a baby bed, free of charge. The communal baths are also equipped with baby baths, baby chairs, children's chairs and a diaper bin (the diaper bin is part of the bath facilities, not something placed in guest rooms). Children's yukata are provided free of charge. When booking, children fall into three categories: elementary school children; children aged 3 and over who have not yet started elementary school (with futon bedding and meals); and children under 3 (no futon bedding or meals). Children aged 3 and over who are not yet in elementary school are charged at a rate that includes meals and futon bedding. Futon bedding can be added for a child under 3 for an extra 2,200 yen, but you need to let the hotel know in advance, and because of room size, futons cannot be added beyond the room's capacity. Whether the stay is free for children under 3 is not stated, so please confirm when booking. No information is published on cribs or bed guards for guest rooms.
The manga corner is free. The table-tennis corner is also free, but it is booked on the day, for one 30-minute session per group. The front desk lends out board games, card games and more free of charge. There is a fee for the karaoke room. Each room has a refrigerator; no microwave or ice machine is provided, but if you need one, please ask at the front desk. There is no coin laundry in the building, but the front desk can tell you about one nearby. No information is published about a playroom.
