Sanyuso is a long-established ryokan in Izu-Nagaoka Onsen, nestled at the foot of Genjiyama, and the successor to the former villa of the head of the Mitsubishi zaibatsu. The main building is registered as a national Tangible Cultural Property, and every room has an indoor bath fed with free-flowing onsen water. No child rates are set, so children of elementary school age and over are generally charged the same rate as adults. Up to 2 children can co-sleep, and rates for infants depend on whether meals and bedding are included. Children wearing diapers are asked to refrain from using the communal bath, so bathing here centers on the onsen in your own room.
Rooms
The Japanese-style tatami rooms in the New Building are two-room suites made up of a main room and an adjoining room. The standard type is 63.5 sq m or more and sleeps 1 to 4 guests. The deluxe type is 83.8 sq m or more and sleeps up to 5, and some have a bed set up in the adjoining room. The Japanese-Western rooms are built around a bedroom: the standard type is 63.5 sq m or more for up to 4 guests, and the deluxe type is 91.5 sq m or more for up to 5. Both Japanese-Western types have 2 beds measuring 100 cm wide by 205 cm long. Miyuki, the VIP suite in the main building, is 134.8 sq m or more and sleeps up to 8, while the detached rooms standing in the garden, Takasago and Kagetsu, are 97.9 sq m or more and sleep up to 5. Every room has an indoor bath with free-flowing onsen water, so you can bathe whenever you like during your stay. Some Japanese-style tatami rooms have no beds, so checking when you book is recommended.
Dining
Dinner is the Japanese kaiseki Matsu course, served in the dining room from 5:30 p.m. or 7:30 p.m. Breakfast is a Japanese set meal in the same dining room, served from 8 a.m. or 8:30 a.m. Children have a la carte options: 4,500 yen for dinner, 3,500 yen for breakfast, and 1,400 yen for a rice, miso soup and fruit set. Any changes to the reservation must be made at least 5 days in advance. Depending on the plan, children aged 6 to 12 may be charged the same rate and served the same dishes as adults; as a rule, children of elementary school age and over are charged the adult rate. For food allergies, only the 8 specified allergenic ingredients - shrimp, crab, walnut, wheat, buckwheat, egg, milk and peanut - can be accommodated, and advance notice is required. If you would rather take your time over a meal in your room, there is also a Kaiseki-ju plan, in which the kaiseki course is packed into tiered boxes and brought to your room.
Baths and Onsen
The spring water is a highly concentrated alkaline spring with a pH of 9.1, mild and soft on the skin without any strong character. The indoor baths in the guest rooms are all free-flowing onsen, and they are not open-air baths. Open-air baths are found in the men's and women's communal baths, not in the guest rooms. Children wearing diapers are asked to refrain from using the communal bath. A child may bathe in the bath for the opposite gender with a guardian up to age 6; from age 7, children use the bath for their own gender. Day-use bathing is not accepted, and the baths are for staying guests only.

Access
A free shuttle bus for staying guests runs from Izu-Nagaoka Station by reservation. From Mishima Station on the Tokaido Shinkansen, transfer to the Izuhakone Railway for about 20 minutes; from Izu-Nagaoka Station it is about a 5-minute taxi ride under normal conditions. The direct Odoriko limited express from Tokyo Station, and from Shinjuku Station on Saturdays, is another option. Outdoor parking for 27 cars is free of charge, with no reservation needed.
