Overview
Suiten-kaku is an onsen ryokan on the shore of Lake Shinji. Natural hot spring water at 77°C, drawn from 1,250 m underground, fills the women's hinoki-wood open-air bath and the men's rock open-air bath. Elementary school children stay at 70% of the adult rate and children under school age at 50%, with a kids' meal prepared for the younger ones. Children may bathe together with their parents in the communal bath, and the private-hire open-air bath Aqua is available by advance reservation. The Japanese-style tatami rooms take up to 5 guests, so they work well for families.
Rooms
Hodori is a guest-room floor where every room has its own onsen open-air bath looking straight out over Lake Shinji, with twin beds set on tatami. The open-air bath has an adjoining shower booth. For 3 or 4 guests the room becomes tight, but futons are laid out on the tatami to accommodate everyone. Every room has Wi-Fi, and the refrigerator is provided empty. Rooms include a desk, a toilet with a bidet function, a negative-ion hair dryer and an air purifier, and you can choose from 3 types of pillow. Hair dryers, trouser presses, desk lamps, irons and humidifiers are also available to borrow. There are also Japanese-style tatami rooms with a balcony overlooking Lake Shinji, for 1 to 5 guests. If you would like a room with a shower or a bathtub, this can be arranged for an additional 500 yen per room. The compact Yawaragi Twin (10 tatami mats), which looks out over Lake Shinji, suits 1 to 2 guests. If you would rather keep the rate down than have the lake view, the Japanese-style tatami rooms on the town side are a good fit; these also take 1 to 5 guests, so families can stay in them as well. So that every guest can be comfortable, barrier-free rooms with an open-air bath are available too.
Dining
The cooking centers on local ingredients from the Sea of Japan and Lake Shinji. Dishes using the Shinjiko Shicchin (the seven delicacies of Lake Shinji) and shijimi clam chazuke (rice in a clam-flavored broth) can be prepared, and in season the kitchen also serves dishes made with Matsuba crab and Shimane Wagyu beef. The in-house restaurant Shishokumitei was renovated in 2021 with semi-private rooms and partitions, so you can enjoy your meal without worrying about other guests. Children's meals differ in content and price by age: children under school age receive a kids' meal at 50% of the adult accommodation rate, while elementary school children pay 70% of the adult rate and are served a dinner with a few fewer dishes than the adult menu.

The hot spring rises from 1,250 m deep beneath the lakeshore at a high temperature of 77°C, and the spring water is a sodium-calcium chloride sulfate spring. The communal bath is divided into a hinoki-wood open-air bath for women and a rock open-air bath for men, with bathing hours from 4 p.m. to midnight and from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. Children may bathe with their parents in the communal bath. Alongside the onsen, communal bath and open-air baths, there is also a family bath. The ryokan is about 15 minutes by car from the Matsue-chuo ramp on the San'in Expressway, and about 10 minutes by car from Matsue Station on the San'in Main Line. Parking is available for 50 cars at 300 yen per car per night (revised from 200 yen in August 2025). Check-in is from 4 p.m. to midnight, and checkout is at 10 a.m. If you plan to check out by 7 a.m. the next morning, you need to tell the front desk by 9:30 p.m. the night before.
