Hotel Gyokusen in Tamatsukuri Onsen is an onsen ryokan whose guest rooms and communal baths were completely renovated in 2025. The Japanese-style tatami rooms have two Simmons double beds 140 cm wide, roomy enough for co-sleeping with a child. Both communal baths keep baby bathtubs and baby beds on hand, and private-hire baths fed by natural onsen water flowing directly from the source are also available, making the onsen easy to enjoy even with young children.
Rooms
All 76 guest rooms were completely renovated in 2025. The Japanese-Style Superior Twin places two Simmons double beds 140 cm wide in a 12.5-tatami-mat Japanese-style tatami room (47 sq m); when 3 or 4 guests stay, futons are added. The two large mattresses, from Simmons and known for their top quality, are double-bed size at 140 cm wide, so there is plenty of room to co-sleep with a child. In the Japanese-Style Garden Deluxe (20 tatami mats, 62 sq m) and the Japanese-Style Lake View Suite (20 tatami mats, 75 sq m, with 2 toilets), the two mattresses can be joined side by side for a total width of up to 280 cm, giving families ample space. The 101 sq m special room Magatama (Room 751) on the top floor has a guest-room bath built with hinoki cypress, where you can bathe while looking out at the greenery through the window. All guest rooms are non-smoking.
Dining
For dinner there is a children's kaiseki course and a kids' plate, and the kids' plate comes with children's tableware. Children's tableware and chairs are also provided at the breakfast buffet. Guests with food allergies, guests who are pregnant or breastfeeding, and those following dietary instructions from a doctor can have ingredients changed if they contact the hotel at least 3 days before the stay; personal food preferences cannot be accommodated. For stays from July 18, 2026, some plans that include dinner split dinner into a first seating starting at 5:30 p.m. and a second seating at 7:30 p.m., with the time chosen at check-in on a first-come, first-served basis.

The communal baths Hinoki no Yu and Iwao no Yu each accommodate 200 bathers at once, among the largest in Tamatsukuri Onsen, and because the men's and women's baths are swapped, guests can use both, one in the evening and the other in the morning. Both communal baths keep baby bathtubs, children's chairs, washbowls and shower caps on hand, and the changing rooms also have baby beds and diaper bins. Diapers in every size can be bought at the shop. There are also private-hire baths, Kuromatsu and Hakucho, fed by natural onsen water flowing directly from the source; Hakucho is said to be popular with families with children. The private-hire baths cost extra and require advance reservation, and Kuromatsu is booked in 45-minute slots. Guests with tattoos, including temporary stick-on ones, cannot use the communal baths. For day-use bathing, children below elementary school age are free, elementary school children pay 800 yen during the day and 1,000 yen in the evening, and guests of junior high school age and above pay 1,600 yen during the day and 2,000 yen in the evening.
Family-Friendly Features
Stays by minors on their own are declined unless a guardian has given permission. The entire property is non-smoking, from every guest room through public spaces such as the lobby, banquet rooms and dining areas, and smoking is limited to 3 designated areas: 2 inside the building and 1 outside. Wheelchairs are available to borrow, and one Western-style room is a barrier-free room with a wheelchair-accessible toilet.
Access
The hotel is about 5 minutes by car from JR Tamatsukuri-Onsen Station. A shuttle to and from Tamatsukuri-Onsen Station is available if you get in touch, and guests are asked to give their arrival time at least 3 days in advance where possible. After checkout, a free bus also runs to Tamatsukuri-Onsen Station, departing at 8:00, 8:25, 8:50, 9:30 and 10:10 a.m. There is free parking for 100 cars on the grounds, and after parking you will be driven to the main entrance by cart.
