Overview
Tamatsukuri Kokusai Hotel sits on the shore of Lake Shinji and is the only place to stay in Tamatsukuri Onsen. Every guest room has an indoor bath fed by natural hot spring water, and the communal bath and open-air bath both look out over Lake Shinji as you soak. Some rooms are designed with young children in mind, including the Dobutsu no Mori (Animal Forest) room with its ride-on stuffed animals and a safety gate to keep little ones from wandering out. The hotel is 5 minutes by taxi from JR Tamatsukuri Onsen Station, with a free shuttle, and free parking for about 100 cars.
Rooms
The hotel has 47 guest rooms in a variety of types, including 10-tatami Japanese-style tatami rooms and Japanese-Western rooms with twin beds. Most rooms sleep 1 to 2 guests, though some accommodate 1 to 4, and nearly all of them have a set children's rate. Every guest room has a bath fed by natural hot spring water, so you can enjoy the onsen in your room as well.
Dining
Meals are served at the restaurant Rivage. Breakfast runs from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., with last admission at 9:15 a.m., and dinner from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., with last orders at 8 p.m. (on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, dinner runs from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., with last orders at 8:30 p.m.). A Western-cuisine chef and a Japanese-cuisine head chef prepare both Japanese and Western dishes, and breakfast is served buffet-style, including miso soup made with shijimi clams from Lake Shinji.
Baths and Onsen
The onsen is a natural sodium-calcium sulfate and chloride spring, flowing 100% naturally straight from the source. There is a communal bath and an open-air bath, and the view bath lets you take in the beautiful scenery of Lake Shinji while you soak. Bathing hours are from 5:30 a.m. to midnight. The waters are said to be beneficial for neuralgia, women's health conditions and stiff shoulders.
