Overview

Hotel Folklore Takahata stands next to JR Takahata Station, and guests can use Taiyokan, the onsen facility inside the station building, as many times as they like free of charge during their stay. Rooms are mainly 17 sq m deluxe single and twin rooms, along with a 26 sq m twin room that sleeps up to 4 guests. Co-sleeping is free for children who have not yet started elementary school, at up to one child per adult, and strollers are available to borrow at the front desk. There are no children's rates, so a child who uses a bed pays the same as an adult.

Rooms

The Deluxe Single Room (17 sq m) has one semi-double bed measuring 120 cm by 200 cm and sleeps 2 guests. The Twin Room (17 sq m) has two single beds measuring 97 cm by 195 cm, and there are 15 of these rooms. The Deluxe Twin Room (26 sq m) also has two single beds measuring 97 cm by 195 cm, sleeps up to 4 guests, and comes with an extra bed when 3 or more guests stay. There are also themed rooms decorated with seats and train parts from the E3 Series Tsubasa and the Toreiyu Tsubasa that once ran on the Yamagata Shinkansen, where you can sit in the actual train seats. Some of the rooms are connecting rooms that let you move between adjoining rooms, available with advance reservation, which is useful for families. All rooms are non-smoking, and children's yukata are not provided. The building has two floors and no elevator; if you would like a room on the first floor, please note this in the requests field when booking.

Dining

Breakfast is served from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. as a generous set menu, and requires a reservation at least 2 days in advance. If you book a plan that includes dinner, you need to check in by 8 p.m., as the restaurant's last order is at 8:30 p.m. On the Yamagata Beef Yakiniku Two-Tier Box dinner plan, children booked on the plan receive a Western-style children's bento with a soft drink, a benefit available only on this plan.

Baths and Onsen

Guest rooms come with a bathtub and a toilet with a bidet function, so you can bathe in your room. In addition, the onsen facility Taiyokan is located inside the JR Takahata Station building and connects to the hotel by a corridor. Staying guests can use it as many times as they like free of charge during opening hours: 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday and 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Mondays, with last admission 30 minutes before closing on each day. The spring water is an alkaline simple onsen, and there is also a sauna.

Family-friendly features

Co-sleeping is free for up to one child who has not yet started elementary school per adult; reserve this at check-in, and note that breakfast for a co-sleeping child costs an additional 500 yen. There are no children's rates, so a child using a bed is charged one adult rate. Strollers and children's slippers are available to borrow at the front desk. Barrier-free rooms are not available, but staff will help if you ask.

The hotel is next to JR Takahata Station, about 2 hours and 10 minutes from Tokyo on the Yamagata Shinkansen. By car, it is 8 km toward Yamagata from the Yonezawa-kita IC on the Tohoku-Chuo Expressway, about 12 minutes. Parking is at the JR Takahata Station East Exit parking lot, free of charge and about a 2-minute walk away, and large vehicles can park there. You can leave your luggage at the front desk before and after check-in.
